Inspired by a comment under a video of Rush's instro YYZ on You Tube:

Normal music fans: "You can't sing along with an instrumental." Brazilian Rush fans: "Hold my beer..."

There are instrumentals and guitar solos I find myself singing along to. How about you?

    Post some.

Of course, to all of them that I know. I know almost all studio Grateful Dead guitar solos.

Check out the MSG audience singing along to a funk song.

I was friends with a lotnof jazz players so I am used to singing along with playing.

When an instrumental carries the melody, like Bluegrass does at times.

Doc Watson’s “Walk on Boy” is an example starting almost immediately when his grandson finishes up the intro Doc starts. It is the melody.

Only a lounge singer can do 2001 Space Odyssey and Star Wars.

pretty much any John Williams score you can sing the name of the movie to it.

Elliot Randall’s singing strat pulls me in for a few bars every time.

Almost all of George Harrison’s later Beatles solos have this effect, likely because they’re simple, catchy and memorable. Also Brian May, especially Bicycle Race.

For terrapin I would sing along AND pretend I was a conductor with a symphony.
