How careful do you have to be to not stain the fret markers and binding?
The ink does not absorb into those materials, you can wipe it off pretty easily. I taped off the rest of the guitar to be safe, but found that it was not that hard to keep most of the ink on the wood and wipe it off the other parts. Just use a little, it does not need to to drip and run on there, just enough to soak into the wood.

Yea, I've inked most of my fretboards. I haven't done the G6118 yet... but I might....
Unfortunately, there is no getting around darkening the fret markers.
If there is any crack in the binding, it will seep into it.

Does it change the feel of the fretboard? What’s the permanence?
The bottle shown above says "non-waterproof" on the label.

I haven't been playing this particular guitar that much since the inking, but I noticed a few spots that I did not get the stain as dark as I wanted. I may give it another treatment next string change. But overall, it still looks great, and for this particular color guitar, I like the contrast with the darker fretboard. Nothing wrong with the original, I just prefer the darker color wood on this particular guitar. I did not clean off the nut as good as I should have, and will try to clean that up better next time, but the stain wipes off the fretmarkers and binding easily.

unless a neck is actually ebony, I may be an oddball but I dont want a midnight black fretboard.. Yes I do have several guitars w ebony fretboards but even real ebony isnt trying to be black.
My rooster has macassar ebony and its beautifully just espresso w lighter streaks. My latest build will have a Bocote' fretboard, so ya, I may be a non majority neck stain guy :)

...if it helps I do believe in a very well oiled fretboard, unless its maple..thats just weird if you want a slippery bowling lane for a neck :)

I will admit that I am perhaps getting a little carried away with the lipstick on this one.
