I'm thinking about adding another one to the stable

I don't mind redundancy but I like to get things I don't already have. This one would cover three bases: active pickups, Floyd Rose, and a Les Paul.

So, I'm curious what the heck it is. Maybe someone on here can help me identify this one. The build card has a bunch of information that I, not being a Gibson fanboy, can't understand. I've been searching around and found a few Les Pauls with the Floyd but none with the actives. The serial number isn't a Custom Shop serial. I have no idea what I'm looking at here but I'm fairly certain the price is solid.

I know this isn't exactly the right place to ask but I thought maybe there'd be someone hiding about that might have some Gibson knowledge.

looks cool, are they definitely active pick ups though? i see the battery compartment but they look like passives from just looking at them, but i am no expert and could be wrong.

I mean, I don't know for sure. I've only played it unplugged. The battery door had me thinking actives. It's got coil taps (edit: coil splits) on the knobs but that's not an active-only thing.

Honestly, I don't know!

Looks like it, yeah. That could definitely come in handy for soloing. Can you try it out in person or is it an online deal?

A friend has it for sale. He has a booth at an antique mall and that's where I went to look at it yesterday. I haven't heard it amplified yet but unplugged it feels good. Nice action, it stayed in surprisingly good tune for sitting for three months in a glass case, and everything has a good solid feel. The strings are a little oxidized but I don't think it's been played for years.

After a bit of research, it's exactly what @Highroller posted. Gibson Les Paul Traditional PRO II Floyd Rose. It seems these were built specifically for Guitar Center in 2014. I browsed around on a few Gibson forums and discovered that it was, among that crowd, a bit of a polarizing guitar. There are those that appreciated it for what it is but there was quite a large, obnoxiously loud group of individuals who had no problem spitting their negative opinion about putting a Floyd Rose on a Les Paul. I guess they all like the same vanilla guitar. To each their own, I suppose. Those forums were full of a lot of opinionated jerks.

I have to say, this place is great. Even in the Bigsby B7 hate thread, everyone is being pretty respectful. I like it here. I don't want to go hang out over there. Those guys are poopyheads.

LOL! I think I know which forum you're talking about! They spend a lot of time drooling over those R9 reissues and anything less is worthless junk.

I can tell you flat out, Classic 57's are going to sound great. That's THE Les Paul sound. So all you really have to do is verify that they're functioning properly. Maybe grab a little practice amp on the way out the door and make another trip to that antique mall!

Good luck with it! Hope you get to bring home a new guitar!

Might be a tad bit lighter with the rout for the Floyd spring cavity?

I agree, the Gibson crowd is very snobby. I made the mistake of looking at comments on Troggly's youtube show episode. Never again, I just get annoyed.

If you post here a NGD with the lowest end Gretsch, you get very heartfelt congrats. I can imagine the comments on a Gibson forum if you post a low end Gibson.

You guys rock!

I have no idea what that is but has some of the features of the Alex Lifeson models, which is probably the only Les Paul I would GAS for.
