Here are the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Nominees for 2023:

The reason I hesitate to start this thread is that I can predict the following posts:

It shouldn't be called the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
Nominee X isn't rock n roll
Link Wray isn't on the list
Rap isn't music
Rolling Stone magazine hasn't been good since the 70s.
The HOF sucks.

Given all that, who do you think of the list above belongs in a Hall of Fame devoted mostly to Popular American Music since World War Two not including Jazz?

Given what the HOF has become (thus, respectfully discounting all the "that's not R&R" comments) it's not a bad collection compared to most years. I will say there are two entries on the list that I have never heard of. Now, all of the above being said, the selection will end up coming down to several of the nominees that legitimately should already be there being squeezed out for some marginal and/or edgy and/or intersectional box-checker choice.

And I am contractually obligated to respond to every R&R HOF post with: "No Link Wray? No Randy Bachman? No Ronnie James Dio?"

I would agree with you. It's a combination of some big sellers, 80s and 90s alternative heroes and a few others.

Where the action is!
Maybe they should just rename it to "The Popular Music Hall of Fame".

I agree with you too. (See my first post.)
The funny thing about that is that rock and roll had already been displaced by its various derivatives about 25 years before the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was even founded. Only the first few years of inductees were straight rock and roll. It was a poor naming choice almost from the beginning.

That said, this does seem to be one of the least divisive lists I've seen in years and least likely to spark outrage from the usual demographic. If Kate Bush makes it, I wonder if she'll thank "Stranger Things" in her acceptance speech?
