Hello Everyone I own a pretty G540TG, Looking forward to discussing a few issues, Let me thumb through the
threads to see about the buzzing and rattling I have had to deal with for a few years. Frustrated yes, but we can
manage this I believe. I have a few stories to share on my little journey but I will hold back for now as I am still in the
how did this happen, what is the cause, what is the best solution, is and was this preventable???? Thank you in advance as the empathetic hearts fall upon this post. I really love this guitar but was not so sure for a while. I hope we can solve this soon.

Hello and welcome. The G5420 was my first Gretsch and I'll never part with it. Fortunately I've had no real issues with it. Hope you will be able to fix any problems you have with yours.

Welcome. We love to see guitar pics. How about one with a clear look at the bridge. That is a good place to start to look for a rattle. Check if your pick guard is loose. I had one once I took off because the pickups were picking up the rattling, even though I couldn't hear it rattle when it wasn't amplified.

A rattley Gretsch can be very frustrating indeed.
Those bridges can definitely be little rattle monsters.

Can't go wrong with a 5420 as first Gretsch.

Have you considered replacing the bridge with one of the quality bar bridges you can get - TruArc, Compton or dbridge? If the rattle is coming from the bridge then any one of those will cure it and should also improve things like tone and sustain.

If you would prefer more adjustability for intonation then something like an ABM-2400 roller would be a good upgrade. I have one on a 5622 and don't get any rattle problems. It also improved the definition and clarity of the base end of the guitar's tone.

Strange as it sounds slightly loosening the main screw on my pickguard cured rattle. It being tightly connected to the body seemed to cause some kind of sympathetic vibrations that somehow made the bridge rattle too.

Here, you’ll find many of us have completely replaced the tune-o-matic bridge (aka the rattletrap) with a solid metal bridge like Compton and Tru-Arc make. No moving parts means no rattle.
