I actually love the Supertrons in that HR.

And I believe that leopard one was a gift or something from around the time he did that bear movie. Still looks rockin’

His tech in an interview said the white was a HR. It was painted white so the heat doesn’t get it out of tune as easy on hot outdoor shows.

As mentioned in my first post, the white one is THE best, Gretsch need to produce these as they would sell.

I know the binding and tone knobs are off. But probably the closest you could get color wise right now.

Nothing a bit of paint couldn't fix, am very tempted with the rat rod, that or a 5420T in snow crest white change all the hardware and paint the headstock.

not to be cavalier but that electro is no where near a Brian Setzer Pro Series Hot Rod, not even the wood its made with is of the same caliber, there is a reason for the price difference.

My BS Smoke is probably the only proline I’ll ever own but if I had the opportunity to purchase a hot rod I literally could not decide between these two.

I am sorry but I don't like any of them. Gretsch has a lot better color options on other models.
    That is just me.

It’s all in the wording “closest in looks.” I know the parts are inferior to a pro line by company choice to make it affordable. The cheaper labor in Korea compared to Japan is factored in the price as well.

As for the plywood that’s man made, I honestly have no idea on the glue and press to compare. Having lived in Korea for two years and knowing the quality stuff they can make, they are very capable of making and using high end plywood if requested by Gretsch. Either way, the couple of newer Electomatics I’ve tried in stores are very resonant.

Btw, that Setzer HR replica was awesome. That’s the Setzer Ignition era that initially got me into his music.

I liked the flame maple models they had with transparent or translucent finishes.

I think it’s a difference in specification and not really a matter of skill.

The laminates they use are pretty specific. The Pro Series Gretsch use a 3-ply which is similar to what was used in the ‘50s and ‘60s. The Korean, if I’m not mistaken, use a 5-ply laminate, that is undoubtedly good, but not the same as the materials used on the Pro Series.

Both Korean-made and Japanese-made goods of all sorts are justly renowned for their attention to detail and quality. The cultures of both nations expect that everyone putS their best effort into their work.

As with anywhere, you get what you pay for. Harvest Guitars have wonderful carved top archtops built in China that play and sound as good as any vintage Gibson I’ve ever played. These are manufactured to a very high specification and cost more than some look-alike manufactured as cheaply as possible. They are still a wonderful instrument, for the money, however.

I've always liked the small run 6120s they did in black. With nickel hardware, they look like the Black Falcon's meaner cousin.:cool:

I had a 99 Hot Rod with 5 ply that was great. For some reason it seemed louder than my 09 Anniversary with 3 ply. Not sure why
