I don't think anyone tried to cover up anything on your guitar. It's just the lighter grain coming through as the dye faded a bit.

    Bob,

That is one beautiful guitar, having wood look like wood is a good thing. Thanks for sharing.

I don't like the 45% RH number myself, prefer closer to 55-60% RH and would've tried to keep at least 1 room in the house at that level.

I would be thrilled with 45%, my house is still in the mid to low 30% range. I don't find 45% bad as long as it stays consistent.

It's 45% in the case, I set 3 humidi-paks in sandwich bags, (leak prevention, as they can do), strategically located in it. In winter, 30-40% is the norm here, not much I can do about that, not buying a humifier, I have more important things to worry about, like, at the moment, a Trio+ looper. Besides, before long, the humidity here will be 70-100%, you know, like Florida is in winter. It's been ~50% in the apartment lately. Rumor has it, anything 40-60 is ok. You just want to be aware of extreme changes & let her adjust in the case.

Looks like your guitar is nicely developing it's own 'character'. If the wood itself is fine and it sounds and plays how you like, can't see much to worry about at this stage.

She sounds amazing. Got her dialed in. She can play a whisper or bring down a mountain, highs shatter glass, lows trigger seismometers, lovin' it. Running thru a new Fender BassBreaker 45, almost done w/ breakin, (100 hrs recommended), & they're both warming up very nicely as those new tubes & cones get loosened up.

Reminds me a bit of Epiphone’s “worn” finish. I never owned one and haven’t been able to inspect one up close but it looks like it might omit the grain filler and goes straight to colour dye and clear. The resulting thin finish might exacerbate the raw looking wood effect.

I'm really ok w/ that answer. Leave out the filler, grain is more prominent, cooler guitar, give that man a beer on me please...
