This piece of foam just popped out of the upper F-hole of my streamliner. Has anyone found anything like that? I assume it doesn't play an important role. Trying to put it back is not an option anyway :) IMG20220808160028.jpg

Hahaha, that would have been creepy. No, a small piece of foam suddenly protruded from the f-hole. When I pulled on it, it took on bigger and bigger proportions 😀

Didn’t you realise that’s the string mute pad? With Country Gentleman you get a switch, on lower end Streamliners that’s what you get. Jam it under the strings, gotta be quick though. I’d just be annoyed I didn’t get a matching colour. Nice guitar.

If this was left in at the factory I have a similar vintage experience. I’ve shared this on the GDP before. I bought a ‘59 6119 Tennessean a few years ago. When I had cause to take it’s pickguard off I saw it had one of it’s popsicle sticks still intact.

These were glued in to the underside of the top of the guitar to protect the fragile ends of the f-holes during painting and finishing. They are then broken off. You can feel the remnants of them under the ends of the f-holes in 50s/early 60s hollow Gretsches. I guess someone just forgot to break this last one off. ☺️
