I always considered this addition on my first 6228, never did it. Gonna make it happen with my 2nd 6228

I did a number of friction reducing upgrades to my 5420 that has resulted in a completely bullet proof Bigsby from a tuning stand point. I’m doing the same with 6228.

I’ve made the first two such changes to the 6228, ABM 2400 roller bridge and a Zero Glide nut, it already has locking tuners. Crazy, I put a Zero Glide on my Gibson but replaced the stock nut to sell the guitar. The Zero Glide I shaped for the Gibson with the SS fret was a direct drop in on the 6228. It took 5 minutes to install, I did not even need to remove the strings.

I’m planning on going with a B3 Bigsby with the Towner bar. They have a set up for Jets but I want the V Cut B3 and I can’t tell for certain if their replacement end piece also fits the V Cut. They have not responded to my email yet.

I'd wager V cut should work great as long as you're not wanting to use the Towner hinge plate spacer block. That's the only part that would be incompatible because of the V-cut's hinge plate.

The V cut B3 + Towner bar + Compton + Zero Glide has been an awesome setup on my 5655 Double Jet FWIW.

Zero glide and ABM in a 5422 here. The bridge was the first change.. the zero glide nut and decking the bigsby didn't throw it out of tune. Winning combination imo. Toss in a couple of T-Armonds and ....

Great that the zero glide you took off the Gibson was a drop in fit as well! Good luck with the Towner bar and the V-cut.

Good luck with the add on! I’m in love with mine as-is; I love the freedom of no bigsby but I always am on the lookout for peoples 6228 mods. I don’t see nearly enough of these out there. I’m still waiting for a stainless steel Tru Arc for mine.

I kinda wish my 6228 had a Bigsby, but I absolutely love the guitar as it is and won't mod it at all. Now if I had 2 of them like you do, yeah, sounds like a great mod!

Actually, I only own one. I had one before and like a dummy I sold it. I fixed that problem. :D

I just noticed that there is now a G6228TG Players Edition Jet which comes with a Bigsby (B7GP string through) and gold hardware. Available in Cadillac Green, Midnight Sapphire and Walnut Stain.

If you go with a B30 instead of a B3 you can get it done with NO drilling and you don’t have to buy the adapter plate necessary for the B3

Here is a video of the BricksBiggsFix system

I added a V Cut B6 to my Dad’s 2622 with a towner bar, and with the regular triangle hinge on a Gretsch Bigsby, I was able to anchor it down with the strap button to line it up. 86ACFC63-CD05-48BB-A113-1DC77039E4F1.jpeg
I still drilled and used the rest if the hinge screws, but I didn’t even have to.

I did think the same when Radd put the thread up but then realized that the new ones with the bigsby have gold hardware over silver and I must say that personally I'd prefer the silver hardware.

I'm about to do the same mod on my 5220, but I'm going with the G tailpiece. At first I was not completely won by the combo Towner + G tailpiece but we put all the pieces together at my guitar man's shop and it looked ok, so I decided to give it a try.
I could always add a B3 later, but to be honest I have a Bigsby on all my guitars and I just wanted one with easy string change, only the V tailpiece it's just not for me. :)
