Fake...or just bastardized?

This is for sale locally, but I haven’t seen it in person. It looks wrong to me...tension bar Bigsby is obviously wrong and the thumbnail inlays should be block inlays with that control layout, I think. But the seller says the serial number checks out as 2005 Japanese made.
Am I right or wrong?

That looks fake. It’s easy enough to stick a real serial number on one.

Body is the wrong shape, knobs and switches are in the wrong places, f holes don’t appear to have any binding, the logo is cutoff on the headstock...

So Andy, is the seller describing it as real and asking big bucks? Where is it listed, FB or CL or Reverb??

Massively faked! Those were available as $150 kits and $300 finished at one time. Yhe pointy thumbnails are wrong as are the fake knobs, Bigsby copy, mismarked headstock (no truss rod cover as well), and so many other things. Do not walk away---RUN! Report them for selling fakes and demeaning the good name of Gretsch.

Glad to know my initial impression was correct. Can't believe I didn't register the headstock logo being the wrong direction, but I was just looking at the body and neck.
It's on FB marketplace. The seller says he got it in a trade. His listing (now) says someone told him it might be a copy but the serial number checks out. I'll message him that there's no "might be" about it.
