I’ve always been lactose intolerant and have always gotten pressure hives, ever since I can remember and I can remember back as far as before kindergarten. But I have started getting hives out of the blue and after a few years it seems I have also become allergic to certain dairy or certain amounts of dairy. No more ice cream! I think that sometimes I will just live with the hives! Can’t do milk, but ice cream, Noooooooo!

That has to be tough. I am fortunate to not have that problem, and in fact I drink milk daily with no difficulties, whatsoever. I don’t envy your situation.

    I'm also lactose intolerant.
    Damn cows!

It affects my digestive processes in an unholy manner. I'm unfit company for man nor beast for three days. Certain other foods don't react well with me either. I've learned over the years what to stay away from to protect those around me. At least I can eat Swiss and Cheddar cheese and a small amount of ice cream.

Sorbet ain't ice cream. But it's a nice, cold, sweet treat. Also those frozen fruit bars are tasty. But, yeah, they ain't ice cream.

Same here. Dairy is iffy for me. I only do dairy-free ice cream. I can’t eat too much pizza either. It’s okay though.

There is a big difference between lactose intolerant and allergic to dairy. The former will give you gas, the latter hives. You can use Lactaid if you are lactose intolerant. Only avoidance works for true allergy. It's tricky as a lot of things have some dairy in them, often listed as "whey protein" or "non fat milk solids." Non-Caucasians frequently are lactose intolerant. Aged cheeses are often tolerated as the amount of lactose declines with aging (the cheese, not the person, as lactose intolerance becomes more common as people age. Which makes sense as milk is really only necessary for babies.)

Isn't cereal with milk just a type of soup?
Is a hot dog a sandwich? And a taco?
All mushrooms are edible---once. Some will last you a lifetime.
God gave us a lot of animals that produce milk. Why do we need to get milk from tree nuts?
I thought you Aussies used Fosters on your corn flakes.

I have a dairy allergy, too, just diagnosed in the last year. Oatly makes very good oat milk ice cream. Every other non-dairy ice cream I’ve tried is a big disappointment, but they do it very well. Good luck. It’s not easy. I’ve learned to read every label closely.

Yep! I have always been lactose intolerant and ifI have so much as a glass of milk my stomach swells inches in less than an hour. The allergy is new though. It has taken many years to even come close to having an idea what causes my hives. But having gone without any real dairy except cheese, over the last week the hives have decreased to almost nothing. We will see so much dairy in everything. But the question is, is it the dairy or some additive to it.
