Chet always sounded better through a gretsch. He sounded fantastic through a Gibson. But those 'strange sounding pickups' as he described them really got him cooking. JMHO.

Then Eddie Cochran and Duane would have had to shoulder the whole promotion thing on their own.

Lol ...and all these years I thought it was because Gibson wasn't interested in endorsing him.

I don't know whether it was destined to be.
But seriously, would any of us be here discussing this brand if Chet hadn't chosen to play Gretsch?
Chet was the major influence on George Harrison's choice of guitar and without that dual endorsement this brand wouldn't be here now.

What if? A game that can be played all day.

Chet and Duane played Gibsons for awhile as well, and George played all kinds of guitars. I'm just glad they all settled on Gretsch and gave us all some great music.

With all due respect to Chet, it was George playing a Gretsch Country Gentleman on The Ed Sullivan Show that
created an unprecedented demand for Gretsch guitars.

Great article - it'll probably be about as close as I ever get to seeing them for real.
