    Came across this listing recently

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gretsch-Cadillac-Tailpiece-Gold/313381536122

The descriptions says only Gretsch Cadillac Tailpiece Gold. Condition is "Used". Not sure what year but it looks pretty vintage classic very hard to find functions great looks awesome.

But it looks like a newer one to me that someone did a horrible relic job on and turned it pink. What kind of metal is under that plating anyway?[IMG]

The pink may be rust or primer. A while back I sort of remember coming across pictures somewhere that showed the difference between original and the newer ones. If it was original maybe getting it re-plated would be worth it.

Yeah I remember that pic that had an old one and a reissue together. I'll try to find it.

I love it, and the exposed copper plate that goes under the nickel that gets electroplated! I'm putting in my bid.

I knew they used copper under chrome and nickel. It only makes sense for gold too. The seller should post measurements. It’s hard to tell if it’s a short or long tailpiece.

Yeah “afire” posted this in another thread.

“The most readily apparent difference is that on the new ones, there is about a half inch long flat piece where the "O" connects to the hinge. This is not present on the vintage tailpieces.

Thanks that is super helpful. From that thread

But evidently a few years ago the Custom Shop was loaned an original WF tailpiece, and they made a more accurate version only for Custom Shop use, and it does have the shorter attachment and correct logo

That probably also partly explains why their relic'ed tailpeices look one way, and the experiment above came out so differently.

Good to know! Did not know they did that but makes sense for the custom shop to want to get all the little details correct.

Yeah, it's nice they don't take the Gibson approach. Every year make a small fix to justify a big price increase.

I love the Caddy tail piece as it's one of my favorite, price is a bit much for me but if it was a bit more affordable I'd be keen to get it, chrome it and then put it on my 5230T.

Just another reason NOT to relic things. Let it happen naturally.
