    Hey folks.

Looks like you have a great community going here.

So I picked up this G2420 about 4 years ago and have finally run out of patience with the Broad'Tron pickups - and stock streamliner pots, maybe?

So, I'll be lurking in the modders' threads and you can expect the odd annoying question about TV Jones vs stock Gretsch Filter'Trons, bezels, English mounts, pots and lots more...

Oh, and I will try to help when I can!

And I will be following the questions and answers (from folk who know a lot more than I do) with interest. The idea of a set of FilterTrons in my Tenny keeps going through my mind.

    Welcome! We're glad you're here.

If you're looking to liven up your Broadtrons, here's a trick you can try before swapping out the pups: remove one row of pole pieces from each pickup. Some people find that this helps. (Edit: @MrWookiee beat me to it.)

If you're still not happy with the pickups, then a pickup swap may be in order. There are plenty of good options from TV Jones. Gretsch HS Filtertrons are another great choice. Some of us prefer them over TVJs, and they cost quite a bit less.me

Welcome and feel free to check all our oddities !!
But we love pictures here and would love to feast our eyes on your 2420!
I am wondering about the color, does it have a bigsby, has it got little wear and tear... So bring it on

    Cheers

    Hello from London Jahoola

I've tried a bunch of UK sourced mods on my 2420

I found the stock tuners very mushy, these are a straight drop in and half the price of Grovers and are excellent

    https://www.northwestguitars.co.uk/mt33n-round-back-metal-tulip-tuners-machine-heads-3x3-nickel/

Dave B in Scotland supplied an aluminium bridge which was a big improvement, highly recommended but not sure if he's still making them at the moment?

Hand wound filtertrons from Birminghams Ben Fletcher. Ben's Fletch o'trons lit up my 2420. I've never tried TV Jones as they were way above my budgets.
https://www.fletcherpickups.co.uk/filtertrons. Not very well known but there was a long waiting list which I took as a good sign. I have a laser cutter template for pickup riser rings if you need them. I changed all the pots and the wiring

The stock nut is fine but I couldn't resist trying one of these and glad I did. You can set your own string height at the first fret to perfection at half the price of paying a luthier to replace your nut. It did improve the sound too. Just sounds more "open" and even. You do need to carefully sand the width to fit.

I like Elixir Nanoweb 10 -46 they last well

Welcome to the thread, if you haven't looked already the TV Jones website has a few good pointers with what you would need to do a pick up swap on your streamliner, of course though any questions are welcome here.

Hello Jahoola and welcome to the group. Lot of good information found here on mods, as you see from the responses above. Enjoy that G2420.
