I've owned several Rickenbacker guitars. I understand that people revere them like those of us here love Gretsch. I should like them as I like brighter jangly guitars. Yet I've owned at least 4 and have sold them all. Something about them just doesn't do it for me. Similarly I've owned several PRS guitars and sold them all. I find them too perfect and sterile. Yet they too have ardent fans.

What brands have you owned and should like just don't do it for you?

The fingerboards on most Gibsons feel too flat to me.

Yeah…PRS. I think they’re fantastic instruments that look really cool but I just don’t find them inspirational.
I enjoy the history of Fender, Gretsch and Gibson.

The fretboard is really narrow on this iconic guitar (Rickenbacker 360/12C63), especially near the headstock. I know one guy that got a new nut with wider string spacing.

Rick necks are just too skinny for my meat hooks.

Not a brand really but a type. Round neck resonators. Love the square neck dobros.

Levi's. Not so much that I don't like their clothing, their jeans and jackets are okay, but I loathe the company and where they send their money. I absolutely vote with my dollars when it comes to rights and freedoms.

I've never played a Fender guitar that I liked. Love Fender amps but not their guitars.

    New Dodge auto products.

In guitars, can’t really dig Gibson acoustics - they always sound dull to me. Also, I don’t get the hype over Macpherson acoustics. The tone / money equation isn’t there for me and I don’t see how they sell so many.

I used to use the Macpherson picks, both the plastic ones and the graphite.

I guess thinking about acoustics, I've never found a Taylor that worked for me.

I love the look and sound of Rickenbackers, especially the 12-string models but I find the necks are extremely uncomfortable to play. I reluctantly sold my 660-12 after I just couldn't bond with it. :(

I've got a Ric 12 too, and yeah, it's pretty crowded down there in cowboy chord land. Two solutions: play with the very tips of your fingers, or tune down and capo up, which moves your hand to more spacious territory higher up the neck. They're a little weird, but that Ric 12 sound is soooo worth it!

As for the "brands" question - all those pointy shredder brands: Jackson, Charvel, etc. Just not my thing, what can I say.

Strats and Les Pauls. I've really tried on Les Pauls-- owned several over the years. They sound great-- just not in my hands. I think its the ergonomics. Plus, my ear hears single coils and I try to dial that in on PAF guitars-- often with limited success.

On Strats, just can't bond with them. Love Teles and Jaguars, though.
