My brother-in-law Tom is going to have knee replacement surgery at the end of this month. He asked about any books to read during his recovery. I know we've done book recommendation threads before, but thought this'd be a good time for another.

What music/guitar related books would you recommend for Tom? He has a large music collection but is partial to rootsy blues based things like JJ Cale or Delbert McClinton and other mostly 70s stuff. He did introduce me to Graham Parker, for which I am grateful.

    My ideas:

As much as I like his music, DO NOT read Warren Zevon's bio. It's far too depressing.

Mickey Hart, 1/2 of the drum section for the Grateful Dead, has three books out on drumming and music. All are excellent reads.

Million Dollar Guitar about how LPs prices keep going up.

Was it you that did the thread on here about it? I never heard a thing about it until that thread- that's what made me buy the book. Great stuff in there.:)

I read a nice Biography about Tom Waits a few years ago ... must have been ... uh ... gallbladder ... 2011.

I'm not sure if this is only available in german ... I think it isn't.

And his name's, like, Tom ... a match that may be irrelevant, but it sill is a match.

I enjoyed, too. Very, very, very much ... a lot of incidents, details, memories, backgrounds, ...

    Currently, this

... is in process. A cool guy, and this are his words, not anyone else's ...

... is there anything he explicitly is not into? Like ... in my case, it would be ... Bon Jovi, anything including Axl Rose unless he uses his right to remain silent, ... ?

+ may he get well fast and sustaining!

If your brother likes the ‘Orrible ‘Oo (like I do) this is the best book around about them and the ‘60s

Or, if he likes bio (like I do, I have a lot of them, from Belushi to Tyson to Malcom X), this is one of the best I read.
