Badbuzz for Blacktop filters ?

This story let me in mixed emotions. What you think ?
Casino P90 won the race from the very beginning. I know P90 construction's with its two magnets and a big coil is hard to beat, but hey output volume isn't the only aim in life. They're lowfi pickups far from the hifi The Great Gretsch Sound's spirit.

Hopefully the T-Armonds saved the situation. Ok they're still lower compare to P90 but they're sounding better (woodier and nicer to my ears).

But the Black tops !!! I know filters are low output pickups but hey, even if I was not expecting a volume above the P90 I was surprised by the giant gap between the two.

Wwwweeeee I couldn't believe what i heard.
I didn't have personal experiments with BT, so I ask the community what you think ? Is something wrong with the initial setup (mainly pickup height to low) ?

I have BT filters and it did sound to me like they were set up too low, but even after he swapped in the Dearmonds the Casino still sounded better to me. Those Lollar P90s are very impressive.

Blacktops are good pickups but IMO they need some hair on them from a pedal to come into their own. TV Classics push an amp more and have fuller, richer cleans. P90s are a totally different thing and IMO nothing pushes a tube amp into old school tube overdrive like a good P90. A hollow body and a neck P90 into a small overdriven tube amp is one of my favorite sounds ever..
Mick would have been very well served going with Classics but he’s a single coil guy at heart and I completely understand him going with the T Armonds in his Electromatic. I have em in an old Pro Jet and it turned it into a totally different guitar.

Those Lollar P90s were also a significant upgrade from the stock Casino P90s (as demonstrated in an earlier video).

They're useless for any tone comparisons imo and we're all listening through different playback equipment, so we all hear something different.

I trust presenter Mick not to have done any dodgy post recording EQ changes but we also don't know how he adjusted the pup heights.

Only conclusion I got from this video is that Mick preferred his Casino.
Having played both myself I much prefer the Gretsch

@j.s.c. : I have many guitars with BT FT, and yes indeed, they are excellent pickups ! I'd say : in-between a PAF and a HS FT in terms of tone.
