all metal is good, I'm about to go into the heavy metal business this week literally. Molten like :) but this thread is about FINALLY getting a little custom work done for my beloved 99' SSU. Ive wanted raw brass (unplated) Tvjones pickups forEVER and finally got my setzer sig replacements for my nickel setzer sigs :) Same pickups, just raw brass and no wax potting. This guitar is a tone post, 2.75 deep, thinner top 1999 guitar. the ebony fretboard has been refretted w stainless steel frets by paul waller of the fender custom shop yrs ago. The final touch was Setzer Sigs when they came out but since this guitar came w gold hardware and Ive dont my best to eradicate all of it, it still kind of haunts me w areas I couldnt get to, to rub off all the electroplate and the oxidized gold looks badass..so when I saw Tom's raw covers in a pic I lost it, I was smitten. Setzer has solid brass saddles on all his tuneOmatics, and I know why.. it sounds the best heeeheee, so why not add more brass? Brass Tru-arc and brass tvjones. Next is the removal of the plating to my knobs for raw brass gretsch lovelies.. how do I get brass tuners is the tough one. and anodizing of the bigsby..eesh

Making your guitar your own is always a good thing. Nice, Tavo. I've avoided gold hardware too UNTIL I saw one that just looks too good. Ordered it. Will arrive within the next week or so (I've been told it will arrive at the retailer on the 16th).

That looks great with the pick up covers, so simple and raw.

Yeah I like the brass, it looks good but my fave is aged nickel.
Can you brass plate the Bigsby?
I think it needs to be zinc and nickel plated first.

They could turn green!! Or in the case of my Telecaster w/ brass saddles, a nice brown.
A little turtle wax (no pun intended, honest) could help keep oxidation at bay, if you wanna keep the look.
What you have now looks great.

brass used to be called poor man's gold. The only thing I have against it is that it needs to be constantly polished or it tarnishes. Used lots of Brasso in the service.
Plating is done with brass first, then nickel, then chrome. As the Bigsby is aluminum, I'd wonder if plating would take at all. Aluminum is usually anodized.

    Looks sweet!

I would’ve never guessed I’d see the day Tavo started a Metal record label called Molten.

    Looks boss!
    Congrats!
I love the gold on some Gretschs, but I got rid of all the gold hardware on my 1995 6120 when I replaced all the guts and added TVJ RBs.
This baby also has stainless steel frets. It’s an amazing guitar now.

I love the look of brass and copper on guitars. Gorgeous. I didn't know Setzer used brass saddles on his TOM bridges, interesting!
