Anyone try a P-90 in the middle? I'm about too ......

I need to do some work on my 3-pickup 5622T. I'd love to have some P-90 goodness in my life, but I also dig those Hi-lo's and while that's part of the reason I bought the guitar, I hardly use the mid position.
When doing the work I plan on rewiring with the 3-way switch on the mid selector so I can get that pickup by itself, and while I was in there, I'm pondering swapping out the mid Hi-lo with a P-90.
Has anyone tried a P-90 in the mid? What do you think? How does it blend with the others?

While not a Gretsch, I do have a Riviera P93. It is the most versatile guitar I own. I can get a seemingly infinite variety of tones from those three pickups. You really can’t go wrong with a P90 no matter which position it’s in.
If you’ll be able to blend that middle P90 with the other pickups I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

I'd get a tron mount, T90 so it wouldn't look too crazy in there.

No own experience but I’m assuming it would be hard if not impossible to balance volume wise.

They have a Classic Gretsch Mounting Kit that uses the original rings, occording to Aaron at TVJ; they were actually the first place I reached out to. Right now I'm pondering color, black to match the Hilos:

Or cream to (sort of) match the binding:

    Thoughts?

How so? There's individual volumes for all three pickups. Plus, if I wanted to get creative with it I could add a cap on a push-pull pot perhaps that would filter the highs and add the fatness to one of the Hilos.

Black, that is a good looking Gretsch. I miss my cat eye Gretsch.

I'm sure you know rolling off PU volume is not the same as rolling off output.
Admittedly I'm probably a bit too conservative. Neck humbuckers in Teles confuse me too. :-/

I figure the 90 will want to sit lower than the Hilos, and the control layout should make it easier to balance things than most other guits. It shouldn't be a problem.

Woke up this morning the find a couple delivery notices in my email, and went down to the mailbox to find this:

TVJ T-90 in black as per my previous posts. Obviously those Strat parts aren't related to the 5622, but I'm looking forward to getting the pickup in the Gretsch and going for a spin once the pots, etc. come in for it.

I began the teardown tonight. I hate seeing her naked, but I hope this mod will give me the goods:

    Jack plate is in:
    IMG_0002.JPG
TV Jones offers an adapter to convert their "English Mount" to the 3-screw Gretsch ring:
    IMG_0003.JPG
And here is the T-90 mounted in the ring, I might massage it a bit to better center the pickup in it:
    IMG_0004.JPG
That's all for tonight, tomorrow I make the template to temp-mount the components for the wiring.

My 5120 got one as well. Seems like a no-brainer to me, especially considering all of these types of photos out there:
