Beautiful Guitar, and a better wife for being so thoughtful.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful story, even if it makes some of us a little jealous. :)

That is a stunning guit! Congrats on the unexpected NGD!

Even more though, congrats on having such a great wife. I’ve got a special one too and they are damn hard to find.

Mud switch it is. This guitar seems transitional between the Vintage Select models and the Player's Edition models. It seems to have the body and neck construction of the former (I.e. an elevated fingerboard extension over the body allowing a pinned bridge on a rosewood base, tone switch rather than circuit) but with some of the features of the latter (Gotoh locking tuners, TOM bridge, Schaller strap locks) as well as souped up pickups (TV Jones Power'Trons). I'll see how they sound tonight. I've been fiddling with the setup and new strings today.

It's a great guitar. I'd take mine over the "equivalent" Players Edition any day. I am a big mud switch fan.

One thing I did improve was the bridge. A titanium chambered compton took it the final step to being incredible.

Btw, that’s what Jay Farrar from Son Volt has used for many years before to switch (lately, in the next year or so) to one of those new Broadkasters.
I opened for Son Volt 6 years ago in Italy and his sound (trough a Bassman reissue) was absolutely stunning.

    "What colour is it? etc."

My Wife does the same thing and that's the question that tells me her heart is melting because if she were going to say no she wouldn't care what color it is.

    Beutiful Gretsch. Gongrats and enjoy.

Congratulations, your wife sounds like a wonderful lady.

I'm not a red guitar person but there is something about firebirds, I would happily own one.

Pictures were taken with a Nikon D600 and a Sigma Art 35mm f1.4 lens, handheld. The light is coming from a large window which is above and behind the guitar. It was quite overcast at the time, maybe snowing, so the light was diffuse. The pictures were resized and corrected for lens distortions using DxO Photolab.

    I hope that helps.

First congrats! Sounds like you have a wonderful wife and now another beautiful guitar!

I was scrolling hoping to see what camera you used too (I see that @TV the Wired Turtle and I were thinking the same thing). The pictures are just as pretty as the guitar which is hard to do with any camera setup!
