    Wow that`s a spectacular story. I really did not know that Paul Bigsby was building them. That would make them incredibly collectible. That said, I would not touch it`s patina. I would suggest that you make it playable again and leave it as it is.

    I’m one for leaving the patina the best you can as @loudnlousy suggested. It’s only original once. But I would look into removing the ink on the front and back. Best of luck with the restoration and however you decide to do it.

    @Winnie Thomas ,

    Indeed you can do a very interesting, unseen, personal instrument from that basis ! ;)

    If your target is this (your link) :

    Then it's really fine ! :cool::cool::cool:

    In the same ballpark, I personally went from this :

    To that :

    Just check that the neck isn't damaged or warped, and go ! :)

    Good luck and congratulations in advance... ;)

    Very cool. Clapton was a heroin addict right?

    Well, the artwork ... definitely has a medical background of some sort ... would leave it and see if I can find out who and why did it. But, however, it's, like, part of her story. I wouldn't remove any patina, like @loudnlousy and @Merc said - only original once.

    Any cavities you maybe should inspect? Anything found yet?

    Does Eric Clapton's signature look like this? Yes, he was a heroin addict at some point. Don't exactly know when.

    But, however - Bigsby guitars are as cool as it gets, including their patina and thier biography, and therefore ... including the stuff the syringist left on her back. Does EHG say something commonly known, or is this likely something personal to the ... the ... uh ... artist usually known as high ?

    That is amazing from a historical perspective.

    The build itself seems rather crude. The lob sided design, seemingly makes the slightly slanted placement of the pickup self explanatory. Then again it is consistent in all pics, so who knows...

    So far my plan is to clean it up and get it playable, then decide whether to redo it or not. I have new tuner buttons and a new nut in the mail.

    "These Genuine Bigsby-Built Guitars are truly AMAZING with their large single coil pick-up." Read The Strat in the Attic. Paul Bigsby may have designed or licensed these guitars but I can't imagine he built them.
  13. I’m calling Clapton to tell him we found his guitar Anyone have the number?
