My MIM Tele that nothing original is left on it other than the body, and that got painted Surf Green, plays fantastic and sounds great but it had one thing that I disliked about the looks.

The pickguard mounted Lollar Charlie Christian pickup and the 8 hole pickguard together looked like a riveter was building a DC10:eek:

Solution, 5 hole vintage guard and body mounted the pickup. Problems, the pickup was not made for a body mount, there are no pickguards with CC pickup cut outs. Amazingly enough, those were not easy problems to solve. Just getting the pickup modified and mounted in the body not set up for a body mount and locating it in the correct position to line up with the CC cut out in the pickguard I had to do by hand was a trick.

Well, it all worked out.......And was fun to do.

I even went with vintage slotted screws....Silly me:D

The only thing I miss about the old pickguard is the cool yellowing that happened to that stark white guard over the years. It started as white as the one I just put on.

Much better! To me those 3 screws are the difference between just nice and awesome.

Yup, and on mine you add the 3 pickup screws making a total of 6 screws eliminated.....Hey it’s even lighter now...Well there are three additional longer screws under the pickguard now... :D

Man that seems like it would be a subtle difference, but no, it's really a big improvement! I wonder if you could age the new pickguard under UV or something.

Looks good as always Radd, I love the Riveted look but I'd leave that for hot rods.

Definitely much cleaner look. Never seen that neck pickup before. It looks cool, and I'm sure sounds great.

I’ve seen it done a number of times in the neck position on a Tele.

First, I looked to the pictures - as usual - and went "what's the difference ?"o_O
So I read the post and "OK, the screws..." and "Ah, the color from Parchment to Pure White" ;)
To be honest : both are fine for me... Just a slight different look, but the same style. :)
    But it's me, OK ? :D
    A+!

I think the most stunning Tele type guitar is a vintage 5 hole pickguard Esquire. I could not Esquire my Tele because mine is all about that neck pickup. So, I came as close as I could.

The look I love; could even be my favorite guitar look.

Yes @radd, it's my favourite too - If I had an Esquire, it would be the same one - in LH ;):

That's a CC-90---AKA the Charlie Christian pickup. Very P-90 sound, and looks great as well.

No one in the first row would be able to see any of these cosmetic changes.
