Sainte the toneking sold last night I’m looking at two amps and I’m actually really torn between them ones a 1993 ,63’ vibroverb reissue and I believe it’s USA made. It looks like it has been gigged a lot but I kind of like that worn look the vibroverb is 40 watts using a 2x10 speaker combination and it has had its speaker upgrade

The second is a new 68, vibrolux reverb custom reissue um 2017 I believe and nothing has been changed. The vibrolux is a 35 watts using 2x10 speaker combination and it is also like new and I believe Mexican made.

There’s only $200 difference in the two amps in price .

Both amps would make great pedal platforms and are fairly low output amps .

I have the Vibrolux and gig it. I like it a lot and would buy again. I’ve even got compliments from a few sound guys.

Would you think these would be too big for home use

Depends on where you live and with who. I have smaller stuff to practice with because I also have a wife and kids who complain if I get too loud

Neither. Find an older one that's been serviced and is reasonably priced. I've yet to hear one of the new copies that sounds anything like an old one (0r even sounds good).

Chances are you can find a SF Twin or maybe a Bandmaster or Bassman for the same money as the reissue.

    YMMV

I recall there are a couple of tweaks to do to the Vibrolux to make it more like the Vibroverb.

Is there a way you could control a beast like a twin for an apartment setting? I know of a 74 with road case for $1000 he had it serviced but didn’t get the vibrato fixed because he doesn’t use it. And the speakers where change to vintage 30s

sure just don’t turn it up loud. 1k seems like a lot for a 74 but maybe they’re going up.

what’s wrong with a vibrolux that you would want to change it?

The link below is about modifying the earlier Custom Vibrolux, but much of it applies to the ‘68 Custom Vibrolux, specifically the reverb on both channels.

From what I’ve read, the earlier Custom Vibrolux had no negative feedback, the ‘68 Custom Vibrolux has reduced negative feedback and different voicing on one channel.

The Twin should sound good at any volume.

I think I’m just going to go with the twin . It may be big but I’ll be saving almost 600-700 with not needing to pay shipping or taxes on the vibroverb and 300-400 with the vibrolux . Then I’ll have some cash to buy a few pedals too

The Twin is way better than any of the new faux junk. It’s built better, cheaper to fix, will sound waaaay better and hold its value.
