It looked great on the pic though.
I was wondering how you matted the shiny poly finish in the first place...:)
That’s probably something I’d like to do myself on my 5220. Problem is... I dislike satin finish more than shiny poly finish! :D

If I remember right I put a clear coat of lacquer on the top but was it satin or matt, not sure now sorry.

This is one of the biggest things that annoy me to no end with gretsch, how they got the armrests for the penguins/jets so wrong it's not funny, the vintage ones and the customer shop ones fit perfectly but the production ones are just so wrong it looks weird.
I would maybe hunt for a CS one if I was you but I haven't come across one yet, I am on the fence about just making one for my penguin or just taking it off because I just can't unsee how bad they fit.
End rant and good luck with it.

You could....modify....yeah that would be a ton of work. Really depends how badly you want it. Notch it out and fix the radius, find somebody to weld the notches up. Some careful work to grind and sand it smooth and off to the platers...I think I spent too much time on chopcult somewhere along the line.

New Daphne blue arrived today and have just given it a couple of coats,
This is the blue I wanted so that's good.
Don't know if you will notice much difference in the photos but in the flesh it much more like daphne blue as I know it. IMG_20210408_165816_edit_290233597762483.jpg IMG_20210408_165734_edit_290193178404155.jpg IMG_20210408_165425_edit_290148056927600.jpg
I'll be scraping the binding at the weekend, looking forward to that and maybe do a mock up so we can get an idea of how it's going to look.
Thanks for your comments they are all appreciated :)

looking good :) It's always a matter of keeping your fingers crossed you properly taped of the areas that don't need paint :p and that there's no tape on the areas that you want to have paint.
Does it still need a clear coat or does this paint have the proper finish you want? Sorry if this is a stupid question :(

Not a stupid question at all,
It's going to need several coats of clear lacquer, I was going to give it a matt finish but have changed my mind and now it's going to be satin.

I've been using my phone camera so far and it doesn't do colours very well.
Must dig out my proper camera, it's around here somewhere.

OK so I've been busy scraping the binding and here is a mock up and yes I'm pretty pleased with the way it's looking so far. IMG_20210410_123454_edit_378303273229773.jpg

Darn it, that’s a sweet color and layout.
I’d stay away from the armrest, but it’s just me. It will look like a Penguin with the wrong headstock :D.
Btw this is a CS-level body of work if you ask me. Something to be proud of.

Thanks stiv and yes I've given up on the armrest I'm certainly not going to fit one that doesn't have the correct radius.

Could you share any tips on your binding scraping technique? Please.

The way I do it is to scrape with a slight angle, the angle lifting slightly away from the body, using light scrapes and using fresh sharp single sided blades. Several passes is usually enough.
There is a few guides on YouTube done by people more experienced than me and probably a lot better.
    Worth looking.
