@Outlaw - I'm impressed - really impressed! I'm also shocked to learn that epoxy was used on the neck joint but I can imagine reasons why they might use it. I'd love to see some pictures of your neck joint and extension under construction.

    Just a quick update,
Have just given top and headstock plate a couple of coats of daphne blue nitro, looks a bit stark at the mo but will look better after matt clear coats. The back and sides, neck will be a different colour. IMG_20210404_092501.jpg

Looking good. That's a very ambitious project. You are showing that it can be done. It's like you are modding this Pro Jet for all of us here at GT. ;)
    :D

    Best Wishes,

    Haha I love that, thanks.
It's getting there but not without some nerve racking moments, still I guess that's all part of the fun/challenge.

Wow, congrats for the great work. You know, when I bought my 5220 the first thought I had in mind was “it would be cool to make it sound and look like a real Duo Jet”. In the end, my guitar man told me that just attempting to do it would cost me the money to buy an used pre FMIC Duo Jet, so I had to give up wanting it pretty quickly :).
Btw I’m glad that someone as skilled as you would make it. I think that the “too les Paul-ish sound and feel” of those chinese Electros is the only issue they really have.
Can’t wait to see the final results!

So it's just had a coat of clear matt nitro it's looking nice, I'm going to do the sides back and neck in Olympic white and I like the idea of using a clear gloss nitro on the white.

Also you'll notice that as far as controls go I'm just going with pup selector switch, master volume and master tone.

Just ordered another can of daphne blue from same supplier I used when putting together a partscaster, the blue i've just sprayed on the jet is'nt quite right and it's bugging me.
This is the blue I'm getting

The blue on there now reminds me of this Peter_Rabbit_Cake_900x.jpg

They had lots of cool color names- Tor- Red, Sassy Grass Green, Panther Pink, Go Mango, Hemi Orange, Top Banana, etc., in their High Impact and High Performance paint choices.

Looks great so far - will you be doing some type of headstock logo?

They both look equally fine to me and very similar imo but................... owning gretsch's with both floating and fixed bridges I'll take a fixed bridge anyday. They're easier to change strings and set intonation on. And if there's any difference in tone between them I can't hear it :D

Black, as you can see I'd already done a lot of mods to it.
