    Oh great Gretsch experts...

I have a 5127 (baby blue w. black back and sides) incoming (first series with adjustomatic bridge) and find the plain black pickguard to be bland. May go for a white pearl...

Anyway, there seem to be many choices for 5120 and 5420 guards---any idea which ones I can buy (which models) will fit right on a 512x?

    Thanks in advance!

    Any color suggestions too?

5120 and 5420 will probably not fit because the de armond pickups are different sized

I would think bigger cutouts for the pickups might be fine, but of they are too small it wouldn't sit right.

I can't verify that it works but have heard of people stripping the paint off the bottom of the PG, making it clear, and then repainting it. My 5129 PG has a spot where a little of the black paint is scraped off and it is clear plastic. This is brilliant because the paint job doesn't have to be perfect as it doesn't show; one can use any rattle can or brush paint.

Angela sells genuine Gretsch PGs and offers a replacement for the G5125 (black). Cheap at $24 and you can experiment for not much money.

Otherwise there are companies that make custom guards for variable prices.

    Great advice, thanks!

Found this pic, so I think a 5120 may fit...not pretty, but works.

My '05 5127 has a solid black pickguard, it's not clear with paint on the back, like my 6129's.

I think your best option is tracing the pickguard when you get it and trying to find someone who will make you a custom pickguard. Or, heck, even better learn how to cut your own!

I have a 5125, 5129, and a 5126. The 5120 pickguard will fit just fine. The hole is a little larger if you can live with that.
