I found a 2006 CC for sale and I'm thinking of pulling the trigger. I was hoping for some feedback on a few things ...

    1. It looks like stock pups - HS Filtertrons? The new version comes with TV Classics which I think I prefer (judging by the samples I've heard online -- NOT from hearing in person). Perhaps an easy swap?
    2. Zero Fret - I bend a lot and from what I've heard, this could be a problem. Especially considering I play with heavier strings with a wound 3rd.
    3. Any other concerns with this year model?
    Thanks!

Re zero fret, I have one on my jet and also bend a lot, use Thomastik 11s. It doesn't bother me and I like the zero fret and see it as a plus feature.

I do believe that in theory that the gap between the fret and the nut is inferior to products like the zeroglide with no gap. That gap does allow the string to actually move across the zero fret more. Since it is behind the fretted fret, you wont hear it through the amp, though it is noticeable to me feel wise and slightly acoustically.

This is something I do notice, would change on my future custom build.

However, it does not bother me and I still like it over the regular nut, and it would not prevent me from buying any Gretsch.

Thanks Henry! If the string moves across the zero fret, does that mean you have to bend the string further to hit your targeted pitch? Or is it even noticeable?

I'm also wondering if anyone knows if this is a pinned bridge or not?

I’ve never noticed any problems bending with a zero fret.

I like stock filtertron over TVJ. Call me crazy... I have only had one proline Gretsch with a zero fret. It was the one that did best with my weak ash playing. The guitar was intonated better than any other... My two cents.

And I have longed for a country club all my days. So I would say go for it.

I've had pinging with the soft metal zero-fret on my Steinberger, but my Gretsch is fine, has been for 57 years.

It's "noticeable" as in i notice it, but it doesn't bother me. I dont find it really any different to bend strings. That guitar is my favorite to play.

Are you used to long scale necks? That could be a big question for some.

Love zero frets, and no problen bending.

Not sure on the bridge, but either way it's no issue.

    I "pin" mine with "pine."

Scale is good. I play a 25.5 now (Reverend Buckshot). Thanks for the rosin tip (wife's a fiddle player so there's plenty around the house).

I pulled the trigger. It'll ship Monday. My first Gretsch. I can hardly breathe.
