My friend is attempting to sell a 1978 Gretsch 7670 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman that belonged to her deceased father. He bought it new in 1978 and he unfortunately passed away in 1987. He had another Gretsch but I don't think he played this one much because there is barely any fret wear and there's not a ding on it. It has basically sat in it's case since he passed away until I took it to a great luthier for a pro set up and string change (it had flatwounds on it). Everything is original on it and the electronics are perfect (no scratchy pots or anything). It also has it's original case and some of the original paperwork with it.

I have looked on sold Reverb prices and other prices for similar guitars on the internet but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask the Gretsch experts there opinion on a price for it. I think she wants it go to a loving home since it was her father's guitar.

Let me know what you all think!

First - welcome friend , and we're all here to help
What might help is the location of this guitar too . ( town , State , zip code always helps )
Sometimes a local sale is good as it saves you and your friend the hassle of shipping cost's to both parties and packing the guitar properly to ship . Always a good thing to have the buyer play it .... if their local

I greatly appreciate the welcome! I've never owned a Gretsch before but it's been a pleasure to play the guitar (I've been trying out early George Harrison licks on her). I don't have the funds to purchase it off of her but I'd love to one day be part of the club over here.

I'm located right between Washington DC and Baltimore. I'm the one who will be selling it for her so I was hoping to sell it locally but I'm possibly open to shipping it too if need be.

I just drove down to Atlanta and back last week . If I had the funds , I’d own it .
I hope you can work out a deal to purchase from your friend . Sure would be nice to keep it close to your friend

Welcome here!
In pristine condition these usually go for the EUR-equivaltent of USD 3.500 to USD 4.000 over here in Germany.
Player-grade instruments sell for a lot less (i.e. under USD 2.000).
But this one looks really excelllent so you would expect the higher pricerange.
Good luck with the sale.

I appreciate all the welcomes and the responses regarding the guitar. I see some of the other ones on Reverb that are above $3000 have sat for a little bit and I'm hoping to be able to sell this for her a little quicker as she's flexible on the price. Would it be silly to try to sell it for a few hundred under $3000 just to expediate the process or is it smarter to just wait it out and see what she can get for it?

I'm always of the business mind that I want everyone to be happy in a guitar sell...especially if it's going to someone who is going to love it.

I’ve got the money but not the need after just bringing my Annie up to better than new. Someone will love that one for sure. I’ll just admire the picture. Guitar porn is addictive enough.
