The 2018 California Gold Rush Roundup is set to begin soon and registration has begun!

    When: September 7-9, 2018
    Where: Camp Lodestar
    6135 Blue Mountain Road
    Wilseyville, CA 95257

Come to the Mother Lode region of California's Sierra Nevada mountains and join us for several days of Gretsch guitars, music, and fellowship with like-minded souls.

We will once again convene in the Sierra hamlet of Wilseyville (no relation to James, I presume) on the afternoon of September 7, 2018 where we will spend the weekend in the Mother Lode woods. It will be a tremendous time to play music, listen to others play, ogle Gretsch guitars (and other nice guitars are also always welcome), eat some good food, and renew your GDP friendships in real life.

Oh yeah. And Joe Carducci, product specialist from FMIC/Gretsch will be on hand to pass out the Gretsch Kool-Aid and maybe you will win a Gretsch t-shirt or a set of strings. Or maybe even a guitar. All you will need will be a lucky pick that drops from the guitar at the magic moment.

This year's theme is a non-musical theme: "This Goes to 11", which honors the fact that this is our 11th Roundup. Hard to believe how time has flown by, right?

Music is played by whomever wants to get up and play. For those who are not accustomed to playing with others, this will provide an excellent opportunity to dip your toes in the water and play in a band setting. Your fellow GDPers are all very supportive and will help you feel right at ease. On the other hand, if you are a veteran, then you will probably fit seamlessly into an impromptu ensemble as we have many very experienced musicians who attend our Roundup
Camp Lodestar is a denominational summer camp facility that we have been fortunate enough to have been able to rent the past few years. Sleeping quarters are dormitory style with bunk beds. You will bring your own sleeping bag or linens with you. However, for couples or families with children, we have some small cabins that we have been permitted to use. They will be made available on a first-come first-served basis for those who are registered. You will need to request one, however, at the time that you register. Asking for one in this thread won't reserve you anything but a smile from our Camp Manager, Jeff.

Meals are a part of the program at Camp Lodestar. The kitchen staff goes way beyond the call of duty to try to accommodate any unusual dietary needs. So, when you register, please inform me that you have a special dietary need and then describe it for me so that the kitchen staff will know what they can prepare for you to eat.

Registration Fees, which include lodging and all five meals (there is no registration fee per se): Friday evening to Sunday morning: $180.00
Saturday lunch through Sunday morning: $100

Where can you have three days of musical fun for such an inexpensive price?

If you have an RV or trailer and wish to bring it to the Roundup, you may do so. However, there are no water/electric/sanitary hookups. You will need to be completely self-contained. You will park in a meadow about a five minute walk from the Lodge.
The registration fees for bringing an RV or trailer and having meals are as follows:

Friday night through Sunday morning: $105.00
Saturday lunch through Sunday morning: $60.00

If you have friends who wish to visit Camp Lodestar for the day, but not spend the night, and who wish to eat meals with us, please let me know that by sending me an email and I will let you know what the cost for them will be. We will need to know, however, that they will be visiting so that we can be sure that there will be sufficient food prepared.

Please register in the following manner:
Send me an email at [CaliforniaRoundup] [at] [yahoo] [dot] [com] and tell me how many of you will be in your party, everyone's names, and the days/nights which you will be attending. Also, tell me if you have any special dietary needs and if you are a family or couple who are seeking a small cabin.

PayPal the registration fees to me. My PayPal address to use is [my screen name] [at] [yahoo] [dot] [com]. (Don't use the California Roundup email address for PayPal'ng funds.)

You must use the Friends & Family option with PayPal for these prices.

If you have any questions, please ask before registering. You can send questions to [CaliforniaRoundup] [at] [yahoo] [dot] [com].

Okay, campers, This Goes to 11! Let's get ready to party in California Gold Rush Roundup style!

So, you've already heard that "It Goes to 11" this year, right? Well, that is what is happening with the California Gold Rush Roundup.

This is our 11th Roundup and, in celebration of that, the very talented Vince Ray has come up with a tremendous design for our t-shirts.

The design will be printed on high quality black Gildan 5000 heavy cotton t-shirts. The design will be printed on the back of the shirt. Ladies T-shirts may also be ordered.

T-shirts will be available at the Roundup or by mail (for non-attendees) as follows:

    S, M, L, XL for $15.00 ($20.00 if sent by mail)
XXL, XXXL for $17.50 ($22.50 if sent by mail)

You can PayPal (Friends & Family Option Only!) the purchase price to me at [insert my screen name] @ yahoo.com (remove the spaces and brackets) or you can mail me a check. Send me an email directly to [insert my screen name] @ yahoo.com (remove the spaces and brackets) and I will reply with my mailing address.

    When ordering, please specify:
    - Mens or Womens shirt
    - Size
    - Whether you will pick up at the Roundup or whether you want it shipped
    - If you want it shipped, please provide a mailing address (for use with US Postal Service)

(Shipping only to addresses within the United States.)

I'm gonna be a very lonely Gretsch fan if I am at the Roundup all by myself. However, with Joe Carducci being there with all of his Gretsch swag to give away, that means that I will have an excellent chance of winning a guitar in the pick drop game.

If you book it now, a flight from New York is probably tolerable. Booking it far in advance like this is the key.

I can personally speak to what a great time the Gretsch Roundups are. I've been to several at various locations around the US and Gretsch folks are just awesome people to hang out with. The NorCal Roundup is a favorite of mine due to the beautiful country of Northern California. That is pretty tough to beat! The regulars who attend the NorCal Roundup I also count as my friends whom I've thankfully met due to this great guitar brand.

I wasn't aware of the SoCal Roundup until recently and unfortunately yesterday I couldn't attend due to a bad cold and my neck in a foam neck brace and a pinched nerve. My fingers are crossed that nothing will stop me in the future as I really want to support Manny and his hard work in bringing a music event to those of us in Southern California.

CORRECTION TO DATES OF THE ROUNDUP

With the apparent early onset of senility on my part, I made a terrible blunder in posting the dates for this event. "Save the Dates" notices were posted for September 14-16, 2018, and Joe Carducci, of FMIC/Gretsch, booked his travel arrangements accordingly and all was copacetic.

However, then, when I made the reservation for the venue, I got my dates screwed up and reserved the venue for the prior weekend. Bad move. To my defense, if there truly is any, I was extremely harried at the time that I made the reservation, but I should have known better.

So, please accept my humble apologies and know that the correct Roundup dates are as follows:

    When: September 14-16, 2018
Where: Camp Lodestar, 6135 Blue Mountain Road
    Wilseyville, CA 95257

Again, sorry for the confusion that my boneheaded mistake may have caused for anyone.

Please do try to make this event. These Roundups are truly tremendous times of guitar ogling, listening to music, playing the music that you want to play, and learning a bit about the history and lore of the Gretsch brand of guitars. And, who knows, you might win a a t-shirt or other swag. Or even a guitar, as LarryR learned this past Saturday at the Southern California Gretsch Jam put on my LAManny.

All the other details for the event remain unchanged, as well as the manner of reserving your spot at the Roundup.

I hope that we will see each of you there.

What with the challenges of sending things through customs, etc., I have not made any plans for the distribution of t-shirts to Europe or other global locations. As a prior resident of Europe for some years, that pains me to have to say that because no one should miss out on the Gretsch Kool-Aid just because they live somewhere else in the world. We are one community. But, customs officials and postal officials do there best to interfere with that concept.

And, of course, the ultimate irony is that the t-shirt design was created by a resident of the UK.

Tavo, I don't know what name he uses now on the G-T, but he used LAManny as a screen name on here for years. When I first met Manny, that was his screen name. And I am sure that most will know whom I am referring to.

Don't be tough on your seniors, my friend! :)

It was all meant in good fun, Tavo!

So, I am keenly interested in seeing two members of Gretsch-Talk attend the Roundup. Those who have dared to cross the imaginary line have had a tremendous time and have kept coming back for more. Powertronman, Sarah93003, Hydroman (LAManny), and Raye Boals, to name just a few. But, we want to add more to that list.

I can assure you that you will be welcomed with open arms and made to feel like a regular Roundup attendee from the moment that you arrive.

If you live in southern or central California, the Bay Area, the greater Sacramento area, or northern Nevada, this is a "must" event for you. Come on out and join us. You'll never regret it.

I'm still hoping that there will be a few G-Ters who are willing to cross over that imaginary line and join in on the fun and festivities. We want you there and you will feel welcome from the moment that you arrive. Several days of music and guitar fun in the woods of Calaveras County. C'mon now, YOU CAN DO IT.

Today is the last day to order a Gold Rush Roundup T-Shirt as I need to get the order in to the printer today. Once again, here is the information regarding ordering a shirt:

And, while I have your attention, how about coming on out to the woods of Calaveras County and joining us for several days of fun and musical frivolity? Meet Joe Carducci, product representative from Gretsch Guitars -- you won't meet a nicer guy anywhere. And you will learn from him about the history of the brand as he always does a bit of a presentation on Saturday evening. And you might even win a guitar, some strings, a t-shirt, or some other Gretsch swag!

Inasmuch as we are only two weeks out from the Roundup, please register as quickly as you can since I will need to give the fine folk at Camp Lodestar a headcount so that they can plan meals accordingly.
