I’m glad people are still making these products and improving on the old units
I got rid of my tape echoes years ago because pedals sound the same, run quieter, don’t need maintenance and don’t change your guitar’s tone
One for the studios for sure. For when you absolutely must have “that sound”
I have a telecaster
This telecaster "needs" a b-bender
I've never had a guitar with a b-bender
The Duesenberg multibender looks like it'd work quite nicely. It also looks like the cheapest option as well
Has anyone used one? Is it worth the money? Are there other string bender options worth...
Building a kit is fun. You can get instructions from any old website. The layout and schematic is all you need
Troubleshooting what you've done wrong when building the kit is less fun
Finding the problem and fixing it is very rewarding
Once you've got it working it will give you trouble-free...
I have a Kramer 84 with a Seymour Duncan JB trembucker
It's very high output and I think it has a detrimental effect on the sound. Drive pedals certainly seem to sound better when I roll off the volume
I was looking at replacing it with a Seymour Duncan 79 humbucker. This guitar basically only...
I had the True Spring for a bit. It’s the best digital spring reverb I’ve heard. I got rid of it for two reasons. At times the reverb didn’t sound right; the “repeats” were the same and I wouldn’t expect that from a spring reverb. That wasn’t a huge problem though because it was only noticeable...
A bit off-topic but this thread has inspired me to put a 1 meg pot in my dyna Gretsches. I remember on the GDP Billy Zoom said he liked a specific type of taper on those pots, maybe linear. Has anyone got any strong opinions on 1 meg pots?
I ended up going with a Kramer 84. I've named it Cosmo. It was a bit cheaper than the EVH model I was looking at, and it played just as well. The EVH guitars look the biz but I was worried I'd get sick of the design after a while
The Good: Plays fast, does the metal thing. I plugged it into my...
Cheers. I’ve given the EVH and Kramer a play and the shape’s pretty good. I’m used to glossy necks but I’m sure I can make a neck glossy if I can’t get used to a satin finish
I'm very close to pulling the trigger on another guitar
My current want need is a super strat. I like the look of those, and I want something so I can do all yours Van Halen and 70s/80s hard rock/metal riffs
I'm close to getting either an EVH striped series or a Kramer Baretta/84. The single...
I got it about ten years ago. I emailed Gibson Australia asking if they’d do an ES-295 or whatever single cut hollowbody they were doing at the time in gold, but they said no
Tokai had a model called the FA235 at the time. I asked if they could do it in gold with P90s. They said yes and the...
I built an AA764 years ago with very little prior experience. It didn't work the first time, but it was easy to fix and afterwards it was nice and quiet. It sounded a treat as well. It's currently sitting unused and tubeless, but it's on the "to fix" list
I didn't blow myself up but I did learn...
Slapback delay for me
My favourite amp (modified 5e3 circuit) doesn't need a drive pedal
If I had one of those echorec amps that Scotty Moore had it'd be a tough choice, but probably tremolo followed very closely by drippy reverb
I tried with a few different leads; same problem with all of them
I'm starting to think the easiest solution is to just tick with a noise suppressor. I've got no idea why I'd get this buzz even with nothing plugged in; I've only ever heard this sort of hum before when I've managed to cause a...
Thanks for the advice everyone.
The hollowbody is a Tokai that I put SD alnico staples in, I might just find someone local to have a look at it and see what they can do. The electronics are pretty good but maybe the wiring isn’t the best.
No noise when it's unplugged from the amp
I don't remember the rig being this noisy in other houses
3 of my guitars are solid bodies, one is a hollowbody. Shielding the pickups shouldn't be too hard
The hollowbody is a mess of cables. Shortening the cables is fiddly, but should be doable
Normally close (1 -2 metres away) but distance doesn’t seem to affect the noise. The room the guitars are in is full of electronics and wifi signals and that can’t/won’t change. I don’t recall if turning everything off improved things, but I’ll give it a try
The trannies in the amps look to all...
I'm not sure if I've just noticed this recently or if it's only recently started happening but something is causing a loud 100hz (50hz power here) mains hum. If I turn the volume right down on the guitars it disappears. This is different to the hum I get from single coil guitars; that hum...
That was a mistake that happened somewhere along the way. I custom ordered that one (spent a year paying off a HECS debt that I didn’t need to pay so I had a big tax return); I asked for dynas but didn’t mention anything about the control layout. When it was ready I couldn’t be bothered waiting...
I could never get a sound out of my XO Electric Mistress that I was happy with so I traded it for a mid-2000s RAT2 (US made, non-LM chip) + a Nano Big Muff
The RAT sounds fantastic. It's really what I've been looking for in a distortion pedal. It does overdrive-like sounds and even gets into...
