The neck is on the dark side, and I usually stick to the neck on most guitars as well. The middle position is really nice though. I usually avoid the middle position on guitars, so that's saying something for me.
I did upload pics, but made a new thread about it here: https://www.gretsch-talk.com/threads/my-g5210t-%E2%80%9Cg6210t%E2%80%9D-mod-project.220531/
I also, shortly after this, had my phone slip in my hand and put a nice ding in the top of the guitar. Is what it is I guess. :-P
That pricing is absolutely nonsensical. It's a repainted, slightly modded G5427TG without a bigsby and they want double for it with no case. What in the world are they smoking?
Interesting. I assumed they would be similar.
Played next to my Gretsch with TV jones classics, these are definitely a lot hotter and don’t sound similar. I haven’t tried rolling back the volume though. Will do.
I recently purchased a set of these which are Humbucker sized Filter'Tron style pickups to put in my 2007 Epiphone Les Paul Ultra (the Ultras are stunning visually, but the stock pickups are nothing overly special).
I wouldn't exactly call them "Filter'Trons" exactly since they're more akin to...
Any metal would be great. Anything to get away from the plastic stock ones! I would pay those prices without question. I'll be checking back here often to see if you pull the trigger on this. Will definitely order a set if you do.
I would definitely be interested in this, as long as you weren't trying to charge us the price of the bridge for the saddles or something 🤪.
What material would you make them out of?
Edit: I also think if you made 10 sets, and only got 3 commitments right now, if you spread the word around...
Given that the stock adjustomatic bridge on these electromatics is now a "rocking" design, why replace the bridge with one that doesn't support per-string intonation? Seems like a downgrade. New Bigsby looks great.
Just titled this in the spirit of my previous G5230T -> "G6230T" thread, though truth be told, the mods on this one didn't need to be nearly as invasive as on that one.
Mods:
Hipshot Chrome Griplock Locking Tuners
Brick'sBiggsFix Tuning Stabilizer V3
Milisten Zinc Alloy Banjo Armrest
I had...
Attaching a banjo arm rest, locking tuners, roller bridge, bricksbiggsfix, and a puretone output jack (potentially, since it will depend on how the stock one feels).
They’re out in the UK, but all still for preorder in the US. If you look on reverb, there’s a good chance you can have an offer for $629 get accepted by the sellers there. That’s what a lot of them are offering buyers for them if you add yourself as a watcher on their listing. Just make sure you...
Il
l definitely will do pics and maybe a vid if I can work up the nerve. I linked another one I modded this way, a G5230T, in my first post. If you search the forum for “G6230T” it’ll come up (that’s my cheeky name for it).
Yes
I’ve put it on my G5230T which is the same. It’s also not supposed to match the radius. It’s a wider radius and it sticks out a bit on either side. The ones straight from Gretsch do that as well. :-)
Haha I know what you’re saying about the Bigsby. I have figured out that the proper formula for taming them is locking tuners, a bricksbiggsfix, and a roller bridge. Works like a charm.
I love how easy it is to make an electromatic practically indistinguishable from the more expensive stuff. You coulda told me yours was a 6000 series and I wouldn't have known the difference. I modded the heck out of a G5230T and it looks/feels amazing now.
P90s are always (unless someone messed up) going to be a bit crunchier and warmer than Dynas. Pete's clean demo reflects this, IMO. They're pushing the amp into breakup territory. Dynas are medium output, very high clarity pickups, and P-90s are just something different. Dynas are to Filtertrons...
Spoke to the shop this morning and they said Gretsch is a little behind in shipping it to them, but they should still be one of the first to get it in the US. Should be shipped to me before the end of the month sometime.
Andertons just came out with a video about them this morning (UK got them...
