1980. The first few singles. I was a serious fan boy.
One thing I know now that I didn't appreciate then: outfits that look dashing on a skinny 6' 3" bloke like Edwyn just look like comedy when you're a dumpy shortarse.
I recall starting a thread about "The Greatest Living Englishmen" a few years back. Terry Hall and Wilko Johnson were top of my list, now both gone within a month.
Terry epitomised everything that's good about the British people. I'm beyond sad this morning.
Sorry to go off on a tangent.......how do you find that Lead 20? And are the other Marshall's in the 'live' pic also mosfet?
I've got a bit of a thing going on for one of those.
On a football forum I frequent, we're invited every year to submit a list of our top ten albums released that year (no compilations, no reissues).
Every year it gets more difficult.
Anyway, here's mine this year.......
1. Cola - Deep In View
2. Holodrum - Holodrum
3. Soul Glo - Diaspora...
All the music I like most comes direct from the heart. All the music I dislike most comes from the head.
It seems to me that all artists will necessarily move from "heart" music to "head" music the longer they do it. Unless they're really bad. Which makes them good.
Ooh, that's nice. Looks like Santa's guitar. Or Beelzebub's.
The 610 is like a less posh 620. Dot inlays on the neck instead of sharkfins, and no body binding. I had a 620 a while ago but I found that after an evening of frenzied but inept downstrokes my inner forearm got really sore where...
I normally have a story to go along with a NGD. This time the only story is: I wanted it. I've wanted one for yonks. And the ever fragrant Mrs Bee said "if you want it, buy it".
That's a story, isn't it?
It's a lot of fun, it's kind of like a cross between a Rick and a Tele and a spaniel...
Actually, it kind of is. Kind of. I think.
In the "that much is true" corner: FGEnterprises of Addison, Illinois was also known as Fred Gretsch Enterprises. Definitely, fact.
In the "I think I read somewhere that...." corner: FGE was set up by Fred after the sale of Gretsch to Baldwin, in...
Sadly, the maestro has moved on.
I don't know if Wilko was known that much over in the US, but here in the UK its impossible to overstate the extent of his influence on guitar music in the 70s and 80s, and onwards.
A true individual in every way - as evidenced by his unconvential playing...
I have a friend who lives in Copenhagen and who I'm sure would be very happy to give you a few tips. Also, he is Technical Manager or something at the Tivoli and showed me around 'backstage' which was pretty interesting.
Drop me a line if you'd like me to put you in touch.
Her Majesty was emblematic of the things that made post-war Britain a great place to be. Tolerance, unity, fairness, innovation, hard work, a particular sense of humour.
Now that she has left us, it feels like we are disconnected from that past and those values. It really feels like some kind...
The first forum I joined was in 2009, it was a site for DIY stompboxes called, um, DIYstompboxes.
Really interesting to see how far the member's builds have come. The first ones were very rudimentary fuzz boxes built into Altoids tins and the like. Now, the guys are making digital doofahs...
