That 1990 origin date is on Reverb. I could be wrong about the dates here, but I dont recall seeing the Historic line until about 1999 or so. They only lasted a few years until about 2003 or so, just before the first Electromatic G5120's started to appear. They're pretty cool, if not a tad...
I finally got my May-Bell back from the luthiers a week or so ago. The Martin Monels arent a particularly " Acoustic-y" string. They kind of respond similar to a pure nickel string on an electric archtop with Dynas. I personally like that. A big mistake is to try to get an acoustic archtop to...
Watched it on Thursday. What a great live band! I can't say I've seen much live CCR footage over the years, so this was impressive. And for my money, Tom Fogerty is THE rhythm guitarist's rhythm guitarist! 😉
I had a Pre-FMIC G3156 Historic (Lotus Ivory/Grey w/cats eyes), I heavily modded the controls to match a proline Gretsch and added Dynasonics. I really liked that guitar but I couldn't get it to sound like me. It now resides with Rob (Tartan Phantom).
I didn't look that close at the pix (the finish seemed a bit dark for a vintage Tenny). but looking at the inlay of the GRETSCH, I was mistaken that it was newer model. If it is a '63, in good condition, that is a good price. Buy it.
Maybe try a set of TV Jones HiLo's? They have a but more output. I have them in my VS Tenny and sound great . . .they do HiLo cleans as they should and take dirt like nobody's bid'ness.
A Tenny is a wonderful thing! Seems a tad overpriced for used, though. I'm guessing there should be some of the pre-Vintage Select models out there for a bit less.
That is not my cup-o-tea. But hands-down, the worst "Tribute" guitar (or maybe it was a "signature" guitar) ever was Gibson's Jimi Hendrix "Strat".
( Sorry for the excessive quotation marks).
I find the unexpected NGD's to be particularly fun . . .and the fact that it's a vintage Tenny; that, my friend, is a bonafide hoot! Play'er in good health! :)
A drill bit over 7 years. I started playing in October of 1990 at the age of 22. I bought a NOS 1993 G6128t-57 (one of the first RI's) in January of 1998. It soon over took my Ric 360v64 as my #1. :-)
