Don’t even get me started on more things you’d like, or do! Depends how much time you have lol. I’m a chef, so sadly my restaurant takes way too much of my guitar time away these days but I channel the rock and roll into food!
I have an incoming new guitar that I was gonna buy exactly one year ago; it was $1799 and now it’s $2049, a lot of prices shot through the roof for no apparent reason.
I love bigger frets. My 6120RHH has “medium jumbo” and I play 12-54 strings with a slightly aggressive right hand but a pretty light touch on the left and I love it. At heart I’m Strat guy so I’ve got an incoming YJM Strat; super jumbo frets and scallops!
No damage, just set the guitar up properly for heavy strings and you’ll be solid! I use 12-54 on my 6120 and have no fear that I could go heavier if I wanted.
I had a Kramer Baretta 84, it was real nice but the heaviest guitar I’ve ever had due to the solid maple body and neck. It also had a very fat neck.
I’m currently waiting on an Yngwie Malmsteen Strat, those are sick!
Angela parts sell the black plastic risers with the curve you speak of to match the top and TV Jones sells the foam risers. I used a combo of both on my 53VS jet; foam/plastic/foam on the bridge and just foam on the neck.
I have something I play that’s super sad but I don’t know what it is, maybe someone can help me if I tab it out or post a recording? It’s just a lick I’m sliding into a song I wrote
I think you’re right that he had just one and continued to mod it; I saw another pic with the guitar in the original orange with no pickguard. Didn’t his house catch on fire and that’s how he died? I imagine the guitar went with the fire…
I knew Steve Marriott sometimes played a Gretsch but I’ve only ever seen him with what looks like a white refinished jet, which could be this same guitar, but I came across this pic of what appears to be a heavily modded 6121. The horseshoe on the headstock gives that away, but then it’s painted...
Actually, I think the whole VS line has treble bleed, no? For some reason I remember my 53VS jet having it. My 6228 had the no-load tone pot which the 53 definitely did not have.
I play 12-54 and no problems, so much better. The guitar came stock with 11-49 and I didn’t file anything; it holds tune amazingly well and my nut is still in tact with hours of daily playing.
