I totally understand man! And like I said, I really appreciate every response! I was just trying to keep this thread on topic. It's not a thread about guitar miking in general, there's a very specific technique I'm looking to achieve that several SEVERAL guitar players use in the industry today...
Thanks for all your concerns guys.
I'm not really looking for reasons to or to not mic up an amp this way. And I'm not trying to mic it up this way for other people, it's for me. We're all different in the way we do things and the way we prefer to do things. That what makes the world go...
The point of this is to get a better representation of what the amp and speaker really sounds like but not take up multiple inputs on the soundboard. Where I play we have a large board, but we use all of the inputs already so I cannot add another one.
And thanks man, that's one of the ones I...
Hey guys,
So I have a fairly simple question, but I can't seem to find a straight answer. So I'm hoping somebody here will have experience with this and be able to shed some light for me.
What I'm looking to do is set up 2 mic's on one amp (one speaker really) and have them only take up...
I will let you know if I find a solution for sure! I'm still trying to figure this out lol. Haven't played this guitar in like 2 weeks... It's kinda getting to me now! Lol
Part of me thinks I maybe did get the wrong guitar. But I think its too late now, and I am bound and determined to make this work! ;) But your concern exactly is mine! I don't wanna botch this thing any more than I already have... I'm not willing to drill into it one more time and not have it...
So. I'm trying to change out the huge ugly regular Blacktop Filter'Tron mounts on the new G5420t. I just don't think they look great on a 16" bout guitar. Honestly I don't think they look too great on a 17" bout guitar either, but it's an overbearing amount of metal on the G5420t for my...
here's the pickup cavities. The slotting on the top is wider than on a 5120-style guitar making mounting an English Mount or standard Gretsch mount from TV Jones pretty difficult...

I guess just for a reference point, this is to tone I'm looking to get out of this thing. At least very close to. I have a similar playing style and pedalboard/amp setup as this guy too. I do use overdrive on about 80% of my playing, albeit more or less gain...
Eh, this is coming from someone who's used to pretty hot pickups. Like, Gibson Dirty Fingers hot... I know that hotter pickups tend to have a bit more of a compressed tone to them just as a nature of the beast. And I know of a few players who use these guitars who's tone I love, which is why I...
Hey man. I've got a 335 (Tom DeLonge model, so it only has a bridge pickup) And I have the Hot Liverpool Retro'tron in it. I love the way it sounds in a semi hollow. I've had one of their Dream 180's (which is supposed to be a result of a P90 and a Filter'Tron combined) in there at one point too...
Yeah see that's why I'm so confused! I play it through a vintage '78 Fender Princeton Reverb... and I'm baffled. :/ I also play it through a Vox AC4TV at my apartment.
yeah that's what I've heard too. Guess it's worth it. I have tried this too though and it didn't seem to do much for clarity. But I can always try it again. Thanks for the suggestion dude.
Thanks for the comparisson Staggerlee! Yeah I figured the pickups were just not to my taste. But I do know they could still sound better on this guitar than they do right now. I'm trying to figure out some different stuff with my amp settings and signal flow in my pedal chain. I feel like this...
Yeah I think I would eventually be switching to TV's later on anyways. But where my head is at is that even w/ all the extra time and money if throw into this thing, just to get it up to around the same quality as a proline, I'd might as well just buy a proline and not have to worry about all...
Thanks for everything guys. I don't have a recording setup or I'd try that. And honestly. I'm so discouraged w/ this guitar that I'm strongly considering bringing it back. :/ I hate to say that around here... But it's just been a next-to-cruddy experience w/ this thing. Maybe I'll just try...
