When is a relic’ed guitar no longer in “mint” condition?

Actually, if you respected your fellow forum members, you wouldn't bring it up at all. I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you. As for being a "relic lover" (what a childish thing to say), none of my main guitars are relics, not that it should matter. Welcome to my ignore list.

When is a relic’ed guitar no longer in “mint” condition?

Maybe when I was in grade school. The relic bashing really gets old, even the passive-aggressive kind hiding behind "I don't understand." I never see threads, "I don't understand why anyone would want a red guitar" or the like. Relic is really just another finish type and frankly the way some...

When is a relic’ed guitar no longer in “mint” condition?

It's not rocket science. Mint condition is as it was purchased new. Hard to believe people really don't know that. Frankly, I'd be embarrassed to admit that I couldn't figure that out. If you don't like relics, don't buy them. No need for this nonsense.

    What are the essential amps?

I've gigged almost 100% with a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue since I bought it in 1994. I did use a Marshall half-stack for a very loud classic rock band, but other than that, I got everything I needed out of the DRRI. Unless your a studio musician trying to exactly emulate a ton of different...

    Best Amp for Gretsch-y Blues?

Whatever gets you through the gig. I just bring a small backup head.

    Best Amp for Gretsch-y Blues?

Wow. I didn’t say NEVER a problem. As a matter of fact I said I bring a backup just in case. As for maintenance, I don’t know what all maintenance these people are doing that they claim is so expensive. I change my tubes when they need it and bring it to the shop when required. For my DRRI, that...

    Best Amp for Gretsch-y Blues?

I’ve had my Fender Deluxe Reissue since 1994 and it’s been in the shop twice. Hardly a reliability problem. In 50+ years of playing on stage I’ve had one tube amp fail on stage and seen two others band mates tube amps fail. But just in case, professionals bring backups.

    Fender Tone Master Princeton

Actually I saw on the Tele forum tgat someone from Sweetwater chimed in and they have the weight wrong. It’s actually a little over 19 lbs.

    What's your secret for ...

A fan, wet rags and dry towels. Use the wet towel on your hands, then dry your hands with the dry towel, then wipe your fretboard and guitar neck. IMHO, spraying more gunk on the fingerboard is counter productive. Whatever you do, don’t wipe your brow with your hands, then you have to start all...

    What are the essential amps?

No such thing as essential for everyone. We're too different. For me, my main amp for everything except a loud classic rock band has been a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue. I bought it new the year they came out and have been using it ever since. Blues, Country, Motown, reasonable volume classic...

For those of you that play some jazz

No apologies needed, I was just being a cranky old man. My arthritis in my ankle was so bad yesterday I could hardly walk. Today it’s gone so I love everyone.

For those of you that play some jazz

Maybe I'm just being grumpy, but I get really tired of this type of nit-picking on forums. I would think that most people on a Gretsch site would know what Motown is and it's not a leap to infer that they would know what Motown-ish is. I'm unclear what the value of distinguishing between Motown...

    Why I Love & Loathe Playing Guitar…

Troy Grady has some videos I’ve watched that really helped to articulate what I realized. He has a method for sale. I haven’t purchased it, but someone on the Telecaster Forum said it was good.

For those of you that play some jazz

Motown-ISH, never said Motown. Just as I said jazz-ISH, not jazz. Even if I did misrepresent those tunes as Motown, I have to ask, how is that comment at all relevant to my question?

    Why I Love & Loathe Playing Guitar…

People that do things intuitively are often lousy teachers. I never understood why I couldn’t play really fast so I looked at the mechanics of my playing. I saw what was wrong but didn’t know how to fix it. Unfortunately neither did my teacher. I kept batting my head against the “start slow and...
