What the title says. Major artists only please. (I don't care if you've seen your high school buddy's band 15 times. Also don't count your own bands.)

I've seen Elvis Costello at least 6 times. Graham Parker nearly as many.

BB, 4 times. John Lee Hooker, 4 times. Motorhead, 3 times. Lucky me!
Just saw Cheap Trick a week ago........killer
Saw Blue Cheer at the Blue Lamp in Sacramento (small club) and it was exceptionally badass, got to talk to Dickie R.I.P. and buy a T from him, also seen the Dictators there and it was personal too.

AC/DC was my first big name concert and seen them 7 times through the 80's/early 90's. Great memories and was always a great show.
Makes me feel old thinking about it now....would be too loud and go past my bedtime these days.

The Grateful Dead---40+ shows (if memory serves)
    Jethro Tull---10 shows.

Those are just some of the shows where I didn't get paid to be there.

Beach Boys. Once in about '81 in Rapid City, SD. Terrible show. Once in Montgomery AL in the late '80s - really great show. And the third time in Atlanta in 1990: another excellent show.

Foghat! I've seen them 5 times...twice as the headliner in the early to mid 70's and 3 more times as a front band through the early 80's. Loved every show, they never held back and delivered a great show every time!

Jerry Garcia. Saw him with the Dead, his own band and with Grisman probably close around 30 to 35 times, and all within a 4- year period.

Bob Dylan maybe 6-8 times including in Rotterdam.

Poor Mans Whiskey - a local-ish band that my friend went to high school with. 3 times.

And a couple jazz bands in San Francisco that played regular gigs that I knew of from high school connection, mostly $5 or less in the early naughts. My favorite was Nick Rossi Set (blues break beats) at Club Deluxe on Haight, probably dozen times. Nick also had a weekly big band gig that I saw many times.

There are lots of great Canadian artists who tour the country non-stop, so it's easy to rack up multiple shows for my favourites.

The Watchmen (a great Canadian alt-rock band) probably tops the list for me. I'm sure I've seen them 20 times or more.

Other Canadian artists I've seen multiple times, in no particular order:
    • Stars (a brilliant indie pop band from Montreal)
    • Sarah Slean (outstanding singer-songwriter from Toronto)
    • Blue Rodeo (possibly the best roots/country rock band in the world)
    • Sloan (great rock & roll band with four members trading instruments and vocals)
    • The Tragically Hip (Canada's favourite band)
    As for international acts:
    • Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits (5 or 6 times)
    • Peter Gabriel (5 times)
    • Ben Folds/Ben Folds Five (I've lost count)
    • Counting Crows (at least 8 times now)
I'm sure there are others, but those are the ones that jump out at me.

It's a tie between The Stones, The Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton and Queen. Twice each.
update: Oh and the Kinks, also twice.
update 2: And Jose Feliciano, twice.

  14. Bill Frisell has been my Grateful Dead. I saw/heard the dead three times. But I’ve seen/heard Frisell +50 times. Whenever Frisell plays somewhere I’ve got friends or family, I plan my travels and vacations to head to that place. Started in the late 80s. It’s ridiculous.

I lose track, but I'm fairly sure I saw the Cramps 6 or 7 times, Sonic Youth 5, X (all with Billy Zoom) 5, Stan Ridgway, Brian Setzer Orchestra, Morrissey, all 4 each, Jesus & Mary Chain 3, and whole bunch twice, including Jeff Beck, The Kinks, Dwight Yoakam, The Faces, Yes, The Gun Club, The Fuzztones, Jefferson Starship (the 70's version), Chris Issak and even Peter Frampton.

Oddly, I've never seen the Stones... not a big fan of stadium shows, so maybe that's why. Love to see them in a little club someplace, probably shouldn't hold my breath though ...
