Fender Eric Johnson Stratocaster- See Details https://applink.reverb.com/item/22782576-fender-eric-johnson-stratocaster-see-details

    Anybody else find this humorous?

How far can you modify a signature model and still have it be a signature.

With the exception of the pickups, the defining traits of an Eric Johnson Stratocaster would likely be the light weight body, the deep headstock carve on a quartersawn neck that alleviates the need for string tree? Certainly the neck plate that is the only piece that identifies the guitar as an EJ signature?

I suppose the price is adjusted accordingly but it still seems strange to me.

How far is too far away from a signature?

Who wouldn’t keep the signature parts in a box for reselling? Ummm... I guess that guy. It sounds like he got a damaged one to begin with to swap everything out, or maybe just a neck. I wouldn’t trust it.

Exactly. I can’t say for sure if it’s an EJ neck or not. At first glance I was certain it was but in that last pic the carve seems a lot more shallow than mine.
I’m still leaning toward it being a legit neck but like you Merc, I think he probably bought the neck separate.
In any case I have never once had any strings “pop out” of the nut in the 13 years I’ve had mine. And no I don’t have a string tree.

Anyone notice how the lefty intonated saddles would conflict with strings installed righty...?

Oh, I think it is. Because you can be pretty confident that string tree was not factory installed.

He should get partial credit for his honesty. That's about all he has going for him, since I don't think he knows what he's talking about.
The guitar is no longer as EJ however and should not be represented as one. The string tree placemnet is a joke and probably just adds tuning issues to a guitar that I've never experiences tuning problems with.
I also saw no trace of the white tolex case that originally came with the EJ model.

Pretty sure the color he’s chosen indicates a larger problem.

That makes it a Hendrix-EJ signature. Need to raise the price!

Wouldn't an invalid signature be called forgery?

Replacing the body would make it another guitar IMO.

I recently had the opportunity to play a brand-new EJ signature Stratocaster and it was a great guitar.
    Absolutely on Custom-Shop level.
But this here is completely unacceptable. Ridiculous.
