H'okay. Tavo sought to recreate the RE-301 pre-amp thingy in his pedal, thus we owners can that old space echo Setzer pre-amp sound, without the tape unit. Very handy. The Boss RE-20 space echo is supposed to be a digital version of the RE-201. Does this mean it is running same pre-amp chip? Or emulating it? If so, do this mean I am pre-amping my signal twice?

The RE-201's preamp was transistor based and isn't the same as the RE-301's preamp which was opamp based. But I don't think that's the question you were asking.

the short answer? or the long one? :)

short answer.. RE-201 used transistors in its preamp so the RE-20 is digitally
converting your analog signal into 1's and 0's, processing it to emulate how the guitar would sound passing through those transistors and carbon comp resistors, etc in all its noisy sort of bloated glory..then converts it all back to analog..

Re-301 uses dual opamp and carbon film resistors in its preamp. Nocturne
Brain Seltzer aka Dyno Brain uses a single opamp mixing carbon film and metal film resistors (metal film are quieter) to preamplify your guitar signal
    ..both completely analog.

technically every pedal has some sort of preamp in it..but to answer your question succinctly yes if you ran the Nocturne first it would be preamplifying the guitar and then the RE-20 would then digitally preamplify both the guitar and the Nocturne and then the amp would preamplify all that into the power section of the amp.

    for look-sees

inside the RE-201..notice all the canned goodies in it (transistors)

now the RE-301 analog chip city (mostly JRC4458 bifet chips plus the analog chorus bucket brigade chips, etc )

and..inside the digital vortex circuit of the RE-20 pedal
and its giant intel duo core 2 processing plant haha.

Hey T, singing your praises in my de Lisle thread!

Note my [not so] subtle suggestion that you add a Birt voiced EL84 Voxturne to your Blondeshell. But then, of course, you'll be to busy to answer so many emails form ignorami like me-self!

I thoroughly enjoy your long answers Tavo. I've learned a lot from them.
And I LOVE the effects porn too!
