I’m a weirdo that doesn’t care for most figured tops but I have to agree that is a shame.
I was really impressive with the luthier you’ve chosen. Those spruce tops in particular sound amazing!

Very interesting. I think the figured top, nevertheless beautiful in it‘s own way, would have been a bit too much. I‘m sure this guitar will sound gorgeous!

I'll start doing demo's in a couple of weeks. Its amazing that the most pain in the butt part of this build process have been two things.. Logo placement and its redesign 3 times.. and pickguard. Got the logo stuff done but the pickguard situation is a tough one :) Cant be too hokey cowpokey nor can it be too astro jet 5000, it has to accent the entire instrument or it stands out like a sore thumb.

Can't wait to see what you come up with on the pickguard no pickguard is better if the pickguard stand out like a sore thumb. Here is a sore thumb pickguard on my modded HJ800. It didn't take me long to decide no pickguard.

The inside edge needs an arc like the top left of the headstock.

I was thinking of getting a Grez guitar, but I'll wait. Can you just stain the top Gretsch orange and make the rest natural? Seems a shame to cover up beautiful wood.

My father was a carpenter and once he finished an elaborate shiplap wall with nicely figured birch. The homeowner looked at it and said, "Paint it." He nearly wept.

    LOVE THAT HEADSTOCK WOWZA!!!!
Tavo, another Oregon tonewood Port Orford cedar. I have heard some beautiful sounding guitars. To get a piece of myrtle wood that would make a thin nice top might be difficult and expensive. You should be easily under 7 lbs with a bigsby and hardware, which would be friggin awesome.

Please do not cover that beautiful top. Consider using something else to cover up with a solid colour.

He went straight to paint? Not even some kind of transparent white or something instead?

I know this guitar has been in the works for a while since started. I don’t have the cash for it now. But some potential buyers may be wondering what’s the approximate price and timeline from the builder once the order is placed? Assuming you’ve been able to calculate it out. Is there also a minimum you have to order before he makes a batch so that customers are aware of a possible wait time for other customers?

I can’t help but think of Rooster Rock. One of my favorite albums btw.

Yes, she told him to do it. My Dad wasn't going to challenge a paying customer.
