Heard “Walk don’t Run” run yesterday for the umteen time and realized I have never bother to learn it. Only took a couple hours to nail it at speed, 155bpm, thanks to watching their live performance and a couple good YouTube vids.

With the reverb cranked to ridiculous levels on my Fender Princeton Reverb I just can’t stop playing it.

They sure produced some great rhythms with simple melody lines.

BTW...that’s not me playing.....In case you were wondering.....you mean you weren’t wondering?...

My old man had a bunch of records, including the Ventures How to Play Guitar album. I'm sure my uncles practiced with this record.

Walk Don't Run was the first song I learned as a kid, the rhythm, lead, and bass parts. I can't stand it anymore lol. I still play Morgen though...:)

I've always liked The Ventures because the surf sound was part of my childhood even though it was on the way out..

Great stuff, love the Ventures and the California surfsters.

Interesting what the original 1954 version by Johnny Smith sounded like. The Ventures made Johnny a lot of money !

Masters of arranging...albums are a masterclass on how to take a melody and make it a song.

check Bruce Lindquist' channel on youtube for lots of obscure surf sound tunes. he plays most of them with a Fender Jaguar or similar.

Learned this song as a teenager in the 60's (good Lord that's making me old). I'm still playing it today. One of my all time favorites although wifey says she's getting tired of it.....she just doesn't understand.

Ventures one of my very first and favorite guitar influences. My parents had virtually all their albums and my Dad bought me th Learn to Play like the Ventures albums. Spent a lot of time learning their songs besides the usual Walk Dont Run and Pipeline. Probably about 20 -25 songs of the various LPs I have learned. They give you a very solid foundation in rhythm and melody. They are very much the reason I'm into today's instrumental bands like Los Straitjackets, Insect Surfers, Satans Pilgrims, Mermen, ect

    Maybe my favorite Ventures. Drippy!

It's amazing sometimes what you can find on You Tube, the melody was used as a theme song for a Japanese cartoon, which also had a Hindi version:

I have been a Ventures fan since 1963. The only original one left now is Don Wilson. Nokie Edwards passed recently. If you want to hear some seriously great guitar playing Google Nokie Edwards and listen to some of his virtuoso playing. The Ventures sold over 100 million records and toured for more than 50 years. Long live the Ventures.
