She arrived on time. Beautiful guitar; however there was oxidation on all the metal parts on the body and it was pretty bad. Worse yet, someone tried to remove some of the oxidation on the pickups and tail piece with what must have been a scotchbright pad. Folks think those things are not abrasive, on soft metals they leave nasty scratches.

the seller had noted the oxidation, but I did not think it was that bad. I opened up the three back plates and inside it is pristine, as is all the paint. Even the frets were very dull, oxidized. I think it sat for a year or more.

I considered returning it but I got a great deal on it so I thought I would see what I could do with it. I pulled everything off and used my micro mesh pads progressively up to about 12,000 grit. Those things took out every scratch and every bit of oxidation off the metal parts and the guitar looks like it just came out of the factory.

I also polished the frets and conditioned the fingerboard

She plays beautifully and sounds great

finished; that Caddy Green just doesn’t show up well in pics. It is super high gloss and stunning. I love the aged binding and inlays. I am a sucker for that script logo on the headstock.

Crazy there was oxidation, that's a fairly new model, sweet ride nonetheless!

You’ll have to post your impression on the BT65 pickups. She looks great and I love the green with the gold bezels and guard. Enjoy!

Looks great, did you have any before shots to show how bad the oxidization was, would be good to see to show how with a little bit of effort you can have such a great result.

This pics don’t not show it well. None of the fine scratches show up in the before pic. You at least get a feel for the before and after. Just look at the bridge and saddles, all the detail on the pickups, etc.

It's always nice when you find the diamond among the dust. I think Rodney Crowell wrote a song about that.

I understand. I’m sure all the time I had to stop and just admire that color extended how long it took me to clean her up.

You asked about the pickups. I’m the wrong person to comment on Gretsch pickups because I gravitate towards a warm darker tone much of the time. A blues/jazz type tone. So far these deliver that for me.

Quick overall impressions, the neck is stunning as is the fingerboard. Just a pleasure to play. Light weight, balances well, Gotoh hardware, including locking tuners, all top notch.

So far I’m in the head over heals in love classic honeymoon phase. I strongly suspect it will last a long time.

That is quite a bit more beautiful than any Les Paul Custom I have ever seen (I have a black Les Paul Custom).
