Just 4 years before JAWS (1975), Steven Spielberg made his television movie directorial debut with this movie, starring Dennis Weaver, who is being terrorized by a mysterious man driving an 18-wheeler.

Would you believe that I saw this on its first run on ABC way back in November of 1971? I was 8 years old and that truck looked looked like the biggest, meanest truck in the world to me.

It was written by Richard Matheson, who is probably my favorite screenwriter of all time.

My English teacher at junior high school used to put it on when he wanted a break from class. I've seen it several times. Still freaks me out.

I remember when this would be shown on tv my mum would let us stay up late to watch it. My dad was a tanker truck driver carrying bitumen. and now i drive for a living. Funny how things shape your life!!
I am kind of paranoid thinking i’m being followed though!!

I still don't like entry level Mopars, and I've had a couple. If he'd only had a Hemi under the hood instead of a Slant 6.

This one had me traumatized for a while. I was at that age when little boys are fascinated by 18- wheelers and heavy equipment. Bulldozers kinda freaked me out for a couple years after that. Lol

Yeah, that one was another fun cheeze-fest of a movie... it came out about 3 years after Duel.
Ah, the 1970's-- Made-for TV movies were really fun back then.
Killer bees, Ants, ESP, haunted houses, aliens, you name it-- they probably made a TV movie about it.

There were some classic 70's cheese fests. Death race 2000 and rollerball come to mind!

Billdozer was Bill Doughtrive's nickname (King of the Hill) in high school.

Due to the cartoon, "The Secret of NIMH", my daughter called all construction machinery "yellow dragons".

Now "The Secret of NIMH" is actually a very good film, not just for kids.

Dennis Weaver shoulda known that spinning your tires only Decreases friction! Sped-up footage looks like haulin butt.

The one that as a child I simultaneously loved (partly due to a fondness for big black cars) and was scarred by was The Car.

Spielberg used the same sound effect when the Truck meets it's doom and the Shark in Jaws sinks after being blown up
