I was trying to cover up the rust with a metallic blue similar to the car's base color. I was never gonna impress a girl with a 12 year old Rambler to begin with, and I was just covering up rust holes. I'd just got home from overseas duty in the AF and put my money towards school instead of a car. Couldn't find a decent job to save my life in '72 due to the economy at the time. Thing was, the clunker was great in the snow, always started in sub-zero weather, and only cost pennies to operate. Weird note---that had the same engine that my '99 Jeep has in it. Rambler 4 litre I-6 will run forever.

Never owned a Rambler car. Wouldn't mind owning a Carr Rambler though.

Wow, me likey! That control cover plate really does add a nice little touch of flair too without being too distracting. Good foresight on the color!

Thanks. Total fluke on the colour, but once I saw it, I knew...sort of. Wasn't absolutely sure until the paint dried and I put the pickguard on it.

Looking great! I love the colour. It's especially classy with that pickguard.

Thanks! Can't wait till the weekend when I can do a bit of wet sanding and a few more coats of blue.

Got a bit of sanding done and a few more coats on this aft. Messed up on the backside, though: Got a bit of a drip/run, then like a dummy I tried to use the fingertip fix. Doh! Oh well, I'll sand it out tomorrow. The neck pickup arrived this week, a DiMarzio PAF to go with the DiMarzio True Velvet at the bridge. IMG_4424.jpg

Jeez, it’s been quite a while since I saw a DiMarzio PAF!!! I have a pair of them literally dying in my drawer (they’re there since early 90s, since I really found no use for them as they’re hot as hell in mid August)... must find them and make some money out of it!:D

The color look great. It always feels rewarding when you do the work yourself... after any frustration during the process of course.

The neck is a PAF and the bridge is a Dimarzio True Velvet. Both about 7k resistance.

Thanks! It was fun, and not too frustrating. Had to ream out the switch plate cover to accommodate the pot shafts, and tweak the pickguard where it meets the switch plate. And a 45 minute do-over on the soldering and wiring. Minor bumps.
