    This 80s era Partscaster/Tele copy has been sitting in its case, stripped of electronics for a few years. I decided that rather than buy a new guitar, I'd try to resurrect the old girl. This weekend the metamorphosis began. Yesterday I gave the body a thorough sanding of the existing finish with 400 grit, washed it with soapy water, rinsed it with water and vinegar, and let it dry overnight. This morning I gave it a few light coats of new satin finish paint. Updates will follow as progress is made.

    Covered better than I'd hoped. A bit of wet sanding next weekend followed by a satin clear coat. Two cans of spray paint, 20 bucks. A unique blue Tele, priceless. IMG_4417.jpg

    Very interesting pmac11 ! :cool::cool::cool:

    I never attempted to paint a guitar - or at least refinish it - for fear of doing shitty job :mad:... But when I see all the automotive colors available, I become crazy thinking that I miss something :eek::confused:...

    Wait and See the result, then... ;)

    A+!

    I was curious to see if I could recreate the magic of YouTube in my own driveway, and decided to risk an unused old Tele body in the effort. The paint covered the old finish surprisingly well. I was careful to put on thin coats every few minutes and luckily avoided drips/runs.

    Since I'm not going for a gloss finish, some of the imperfections in the body aren't as obvious. More photos will come as the work progresses. Between the surface prep and the painting, it's only been about an hour's work. Lots of fun too!

    Here's a hint as to where I'm heading with all this...

    For the word 'case', or for the proper use of a comma, or... ?

    Nice color. There's only one issue with Rust-O-Leum. It's a paint meant for metal surfaces, tho they make a plastic type and others. It's made from a fish oil base. On metal surfaces, it's great stuff. Unfortunately, if you paint anything other than Rust-O-Leum over it, it'll react negatively and bubble up, making you sand the entire thing down.

    Looks like I should stock up on Rustoleum in case I get sick of this colour. Or decide that it needs stripes.
    @wabash slim, thanks for that valuable info!

    It was a Rambler 330 that I paid $30 for. No great loss. Best $30 car I ever bought, tho.
