PAFGAS can be distressing and expensive.
Gretsch PAF, a much better deal!
Yeah! The current HS Filtertron neck pickup, to my ears, is just like a vintage one. And the price (<$100) is right.
I have one LP. a 97 LP Classic. Put a White uncovered Duncan 59 in it about 3 years ago and never looked back.
Think I traded it for a Gibson 57 or something.
The 59 does sparkly cleans to roaring distortion. Win win!
I'm more of a T-Top tone guy for my SGs. I have an original 75 bridge in one and a JPPre72 from Rewind Pickups(http://www.re-wind.net/Buckers.html) in another.
Both great pups!!
With all due respect to the '57 with alnico IIs; I think that the '59 is more of "my" sound; doesn't it have alnico Vs?
Yep, it does. http://www.seymourduncan.com/pickup/59-bridge
Meh. On a somewhat related note I just ordered a Pearly Gates for the neck position to go with a Black Winter in my PRS SE Custom 24. Somewhere between the Jazz and the 59' with a slight mids hump. The Black Winter is like a hotter Duncan Distortion but with more note separation and more magnetic flux/Gauss.
Y I K E S ......it's getting in the boutique price range.
T tops in the '78 SG are killer, they sing and howl just like the best Gibo pickups i ever heard.
Thanks man but I believe I have to wait
Hey speaking of gucci PAFs....has anyone tried these?
Interesting Rob, but they are 17k ohms (!) Very far from vintage (7.5k - 8.0k ohms) spec.
