So was the BST-5000
Does the neck have side dots??
WHAT?!?!?! AND 24 FRETS?!?!?! GIMME GIMME GIMME!!!!!! I NEED IT NOW!!!!
Sorry for the long delay in my response E-man, yes, it has dots on the neck binding.
And drmilktruck, Jerry probably never played a Committee (perhaps in a shop, almost certainly not on stage). Some of his guitars had a few things in common, though.
My friend, when playing my Commitee through my Twin, sounds eerily like late '60s early '70s Jerry tone. I love it! I lay down some Buddy Holly rhythm, he does his lead thing, I just smile, smile, smile.
I wasn't saying Jerry played a Committee, I was responding to a comment about Alembic guitars and how heavy they were.
This Jerry Garcia Alembic style guitar, "Tiger," weighed 13.5 lbs.
I don't know a thing about these and after reading the thread topic I had made up my mind......nahhhhh! Now? I want one! And of course I'm curious about grabbing one and installing Magna'Trons.
I love Baldwin's, I'd like a TK myself.
The old Ibanez Musicians looked real similar.
I thought this was a pretty good review especially when he starts playing clean....I want one:
David - you could carve a niche in guitar building - Baldwin era Gretsches! I'd be interested in a new made Committee.
I found a guy on the interwebs a few years ago who made laminate guitar bodies like that, but I can't find him any more.
I’ve heard that guitar is what killed him.
it's a cool looking guitar imo!!! congrats & enjoy!!!!
Completely off point but I wonder if that upper strap button position would make my SG ride up and flatter?
I’d go so far as to consider it a calling. No one else can do this, David.
If anyone wants one, I'd be more than happy to do it. Not sure how to make it so it's not 10 pounds but there's probably a way.
My Pro Jet is 10 pounds and is a back killer. 13.5 pounds may not have killed Jerry, but it sure could do some damage to his spine.
Probably so, but I doubt that Jerry was feeling any pain.
The heavier it is, the better for me. It actually is more comfortable and I mostly practice standing up. My LP is close to 10 lbs. and the Tokai is closing in on 11 pounds. I love the Edwards I have but it is considerably lighter around 8. I believe it has to do with the type of mahogany used for the body.
If the funds were not so tight right now, I would certainly be asking for some of your magic!!!!
Well, it's not like Gretsch has an overabundance of solid body/slab guitars. If you need a slab, the Committee is a good way to go. Of course, the PAF style 'buckers would have to go. P-90s or DeArmonds would be perfect.
