Are there any Tele experts out there that can help me date this instrument?
I have done a little bit of research but, could do with an 'expert eye' opinion. It's not vintage and has been reliced. Don't know if parts have been changed etc... 20190819_160347.jpg 20190819_160404.jpg 20190819_160425.jpg 20190819_160445.jpg 20190819_160510.jpg 20190819_160452.jpg

Have you pulled the neck? You're likely to find a date stamp in there. Probably a '52 reissue though.

Looks like some kind of a reissue with possibly an aftermarket neck.
Is the headstock decal under the finish or applied on top of the clear ? On top of the clear would indicate a decal was applied to an aftermarket neck.
If it is an aftermarket neck it should have a stamp or marking under the bottom back side, which would require removing the neck to see.
    Hope this helps.

A decal on the lacquer is not sign of an aftermarket neck—that’s how AV/PV guitars are made, just like the original artifacts. Same time, one can buy a unfinished neck and bury the decal. The fact you have a chipped decal suggests it’s over the lacquer like an AV/PV, plus the decal has the heavy black line around “Fender” like many PV reissues do.

Try emailing Fender about the serial, I’m assuming it isn’t a Kirn or some other aftermarket job. 5 digits suggests it dates to after 1988, and it doesn’t have the V prefix which, would be a recent change, I don’t know what year.

Again, you gotta pull the neck and look for a stamp or pencil date, or other clue.

Usually there’s a label if you look inside the sound hole, oh wait, never mind.

Headstock decal does look like a 50's style and the pickguard and neck plate screws are slotted like the earlier Tele's
, but as BR said you really have to remove the neck to make a positive ID.

Thanks guys, I don't know much about Tele's or Fenders in general.( As Glen P say's, I usually look at the paper label through an f-hole) I'll have a peek in the neck pocket. Thanks again for the input.

It looks a lot like my '52 RI. That would be my guess. From the '90's maybe? Pull the neck. You won't break anything.

Looks like a AVRI to me, you can also pull the control plate and get dates off the pots for a general idea (if they're stock).

Is there any paperwork on the case pocket? The guitar, like most ave said , appears to be a '52 reissue.

Fender's Serial number list says to check the neck date for '52 reissues too.
