Sorry if this has already been covered. Question for those of you that have put strap locks on this guitar.
Is there any solid wood under there? Or are the screws just going through the side panel or bout I guess is the term? I hate the originals as I had to glue the screw into the body right after I got the guitar. Now the piece that screws on and holds the strap is stripped.
I have Dunlop straplocks on almost all of my other guitars. So, I guess the question is, are they solid after installation?
    Thanks everyone!!

I put schaller strap locks on my 5420 a few hours after purchase. Solid as a rock.

Thanks for the quick response! Did you use any glue by chance? Or, just screw them in?

    Just screwed them in.
In the past on other guitars with a stripped strap screw hole, I just put a piece of a toothpick in the hole and then screwed it in. Easy fix.

Be aware, your strap lock screws will be much larger and longer. Take care not to damage the guitar. I have changed a number of ones on Gretschs successfully and I always coat the threads with a a dry lube like bar soap and I go carefully.

Just thread the inside of a Schaller button and screw it onto the Gretsch stud. You dont even have to drill it, the hole is already a good size for tapping. I think it's a # 8 tap, but double check.

That’s pretty beefy looking! What the heck do you hook that to?:D
I put the Dunlops on. Have them on a lot of my guitars and (knocking on wooden head) they’ve never failed me.
Thanks guys for your input and joining in!
