    Hello all,

There is a Gretsch for sale on a local auction site. I've looked through the information online regarding identifying Gretsch guitars with the serial number. However, the serial number on this guitar doesn't fit the conventions. Wondering if someone might be able to give me some information on this guitar.

    Serial number = U8015603

These come from some unnamed Asian factory. Our courts don't reach that far. Your best bet is to realize that you can't get a $3,000 guitar for $300. Look at the details closely and you'll see that it's not the real thing.

    Caveat Emptor!

@mjccox I had that auction pointed out to me a couple of times. They had 3 or 4 Gretsch guitars listed, and all were fake.

The only thing that looks Gretsch... are the knock-off Imperial tuners

It's not a strange serial number at all. In fact it's quite common...
Apparently whatever factory cranks these out only has one serial number stamp.

At some point, the auction site has to be held responsible for vetting what they are selling. I could see if one forgery slipped by, but for multiple fake Gretsch guitars to be available on this auction site... that's BS.
